    Default v1 questionable alerting?

Hey I just recently got a v1 as a gift last week of July. I wanted one because I used my friends last summer when he went outta town and saw the great performance of the v1. I was clearly impressed as I took a drive to FL (from ny) and the v1 got every cop, even aggressive traps on the way down. I did this trip in March '04 so I'm guessing I was using possibly the v1.7 of the v1.
Either way, the v1 I have now does not seem to be detecting all of the police i see. I drive alot in NJ which is infamous for the X band and I get Xband hits but I often drive by undercover cars which are shooting k and ka bands and my v1 does not go off. I remember it going crazy on these same cops when i used my friends in march '04. i know for a fact the undercover cop was shooting for speeders because moments after i passed him he pulled out and pulled someone over. I have also passed a couple of NJ state troopers which I normally get heavy X band hits and get absolutely nothing. since i have owned my own i have to be honest and say i am losing a little bit of confidence in the ability of this detector. any feedback or more questions are welcome, please no flames as maybe Mike V does need to be alerted of some type of bug in this v1.

also to add to that i can see how law enforement can target the v1 and build things around it because its been such a great product. im going to move my v1 to a different position and see how it reacts.

If a cop didn't set off your V1 but ended up pulling someone over then there's a good chance he was using a laser gun. They are nearly impossible to detect unless you are the one in its sights, and even then it's pretty tough. Even with the V1's insane laser detection there is always a chance of missing it. Was the officer parked parallel to or directly facing traffic and just sitting in the cruiser? Or was he outside the cruiser, or possibly parked perpendicular to traffic and aiming something out the window? If you see an officer aiming a detection device as if it were a gun, 99% chance it's laser.

the first ticket i picked up was a laser and the cop made me get out the car and showed me it, even made me look through the scope with the red dot in the middle as stond as i was. but yeah i just saw the cop sitting in the middle of the highway ahead of me and the person he pulled over was on the other side of the highway approching me. so i guess he could have shot the laser the complete opposite direction that i was coming if thats what he did have. he was moving around alot in his front seat but i didnt see the gun.

im glad to see u have an accord thats hot. ill be sure to take some pics soon and leave them in my sig.

How do you know what they are shooting if your V1 isn't alerting you? NJ Troopers use only X band and laser at the present time.

first and foremost im not a v1 hater, its the only detector i own and will be owning, i was just a little concerned thats all.
i have been hit with x and laser in jersy, but also by ka or k, one of those by the undercover, or unmarked vechiles. i am not making this up, i have been hit with those bands by a camero and an impala (or some american car that looks like that), both incidents on I-80 in jersy (not in the populated section and not in deleware or penn.). All of the marked trooper cars i have been hit with have been laser and X. This was last year when i was hit by these undercover cars with the k or ka band.

i agree with the theory that my v1 didnt get the unmarked car because he was shooting laser in the opposite direction (upon first thought i hope u can see why i thought he was shooting k or ka from my prior experiences) and the othe trooper probably had his x band off because the next trooper (the 3rd one i passed on that morning) my v1 alerted me with full x band signal.

all this makes me feel a whole lot better about my v1 thats for the feedback guys!!

I just took a trip to the midwest with my recently updated 3.825 and I also noticed some abnormal behavior with my V1. Cops were sampling traffic ahead(instant on Ka) in one instance, but my V1 didn't detect it until I was on top of him. I lucked out that time. Another instance I ran into a LEO hiding in oncoming traffic on a two lane highway. The two lane highway situation may have been a case where I was too far behind the traffic in front of me on the road and the road curved and was hilly so I was unable to pick up his sampling of traffic. The second case the LEO had me... Luckily for me he tried to get stopped and turn around and he was having issues and I rounded a curve and over a hill and took a side road exit very quickly(out of his line of sight). I lucked out there.

So I am not sure right now that my V1 with the latest firmware is giving me all the info. I will hold off judgement for a while and keep a close eye on it. I had one other incident where a LEO was sitting next to the interstate and looked like he was sampling traffic, but the V1 didn't make a peep. So lots of ?????? at this point.

    Drive safe, have fun,

    Default NJ

I used to take the Palisades every week from I-87 in NY, through NJ, and back over the GW Bridge, and I only got K off the LEOs on there..never got X from them. Got KA a couple of times from ones parked right @ the GW bridge tolls, and of course there is a constant-on K sign there, unless they removed it in the past year or so.
