Default freeway cruising then sudden K band question

hey everyone, got a question. i was driving on 280N&S yesterday when V1 reported full strength K band. i wasn't too worried since CHP doesn't use K band on the freeway (correct me if i'm wrong please!), but i was wondering what caused the full strength K. thanks!!

Well, I can't say for sure but I can share a similar experience with you. On I40 (through NC, around Raleigh) they have K band drones or speed monitors. They will send out three second long bursts & then sit dormant for 10 seconds. I don't know whether they're purely for monitoring the overall traffic speed or put there simply to annoy novice radar detector users but there's around 30+ of them in a 50mi stretch.

You can usually spot them mounted on the backs of roadsigns or by bridges. The strength on your detector will obviously vary depending on how close you are when they pulse. Yes, it can get very annoying if you happen to be passing one right when it go's off. Hope this helps some, this might be what you're experiencing.

Your sig says "Ka auto-mute (15 second delay)"
Should say K as Ka has no automute.
You can keep your 15 sec delay but if you add sections (E) and (F) as I discussed you will mute full strength regular volume on these drones.

oops that was a typo lol! thanks i'll fix it. as for E and F, they're for 4 dots and 6 dots respectively. the K band i got on the highway was full strength, so V1 wouldn't mute it right?.

i have E on, but i'm worried about F. i don't wanna get picked off by a cop when i'm on the local streets.

Go ahead and use both E and F and it will automute all eight LED's of strength, then when you are off the highway you already know that (A) mode overrides all K automute settings like you never touched it.
Also you have the option of cranking up your muted volume for K band in small logic mode.

Did the arrows flip as you past the source, you can never rule out K band. Could have been IO or just a false.

No danger of that, CHP did not get radar until around 99' so they bought all Ka 34.7
Arrows do not change as the shot is less than 3-sec.
    How do I know that?
The V1 3-sec minimum time period on the K automute will hold it.
