I don't know the specifics of what bands are used in your area, but I'd suggest keeping all bands enabled for at least a month or two until you have a very good idea of what's around you. The V1 is very effective at tracking multiple band alerts responsively, which is more than can be said about a lot of other detectors out there, so it odesn't really hurt you other than the annoyance of those extra beeps to keep it on.

You should set up an auto-mute setting to your tastes to shut the detector up during city driving when alert signals are weak. This will help make the detector less annoyingly intrusive -- the V1's programmability is great in this regard and we've got some nice stickies in this forum about programming.

Yes, your firmware will be either 3.863 or 3.864. Performance-wise there shouldn't be a difference between the two though apparently the latter supports "euro X band" as an option. Not sure how handy that would be in PA (probably not at all)

Welcome. Leave on K and KA only in PA. Laser maybe coming eventually. If you go to NJ, turn on X and Laser. Turn OFF POP. Remember, as of now, only state cops can shoot radar, not locals. I am not sure if state cops patrol RT 33 or 22. In my area, state cops patrol Rt 22. Locals use ENRADD or VASCAR, which is not detected by any detector. Get a CB to listen for those traps. Hope that helps some what, good luck. Watch out for instant on, and always have a rabbit. Construction zones will annoy you.

If you got your V1 from Valentine, you have the newest version. Like I said, a CB will will help you out immensely, if you do not mind a 3 ft antenna on your car. Get a wilson antenna.

Radar is broken down into bands, and cops have different guns to "hit" you with. Cops in PA use K and KA band only and turn everything else off (for now) when driving in PA, including POP. The V1 website has a guide for you about how to turn off bands. Check out this very informative video about programming your V1: http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ogramVideo.flv

Laser is not currently used in PA. A speed trap is an area that is heavily enforced by cops. A rabbit is "bait," a car that is in front of you, about .25-.5 miles that is going as fast as you, and the cop would hit him with instant on, and you could slow down. Never speed without a rabbit, unless you are feeling really lucky. Watch out for the white lines going across a road, they are potential VASCAR traps. If you see a car battery on the side of the road with wires sticking out of it, it is ENRADD, so down to the speed limit.

How would cops catch you with the white stripes?? and what would a battery with wires sticking out of it? how doe that work along with the lines? im guessing a cop must be present for the white lines to see how long it takes you to get to the next line?

So turn off POP, and the other ones except k and ka correct? also i was watching a couple of videos i see the V1 go off with a straight "beep" like it didnt "beep" beep beep" it was just a strong "beep" does this mean a direct hit and your screwed? and got a ticket or is this cause of a laser hit witch i dont have to worry about? thanks buddy for all the help.

For the white lines, a cop uses a stopwatch to time you as you cross the lines, and they know the distance between the line, so it is quite easy to get your speed knowing your time and distance. A CB would help with VASCAR traps as cops have to sit near by.

The battery with the wires sticking out is ENRADD, the sensors time how long it takes to cross the sensors, which are usually placed about 5 feet apart. A cop is sitting near by to pull you over. ENRADD does not use the white lines.

Just keep K and KA on. Turn off X, POP, and LASER. Until you get used to your V1, use A mode. Laser is very deadly, but not used yet in PA. The link I posted above shows you how to program. Dont worry about the k mute at a certain level, that is for l and L modes and you may want to use it later. There will be a time when you see those damn PENNDOT construction signs, they will most likely will have a K drone in them to annoy rd users. You will be using the mute button often. Do you have a concealed display? You will find the K door openers on your route, the V1 is the most sensitive rd out there, if you get sick of the door openers, you may want to program and use l mode.

A straight beep means that you are close to the radar source and or direct hit from radar. Remember to use a rabbit and you will be ok. Hope this helps. State cops on the interstate use constant on K, but some of them hold the trigger down so long it is almost like constant on.

the beep beep? or the dee deet? haha there's a difference. the dee deet means V1 detected another bogey and then the arrows will flash to the most dangerous one V1 determines. the beep beep you're referring to is probably Ka band (which is more of a brap-brap. watch youtube videos, it'll help)

door openers are the sensors on the auto doors at supermarkets and everywhere else. pull into a shopping complex and your V1 will go crazy.

i'd say keep it in A for now, until you read enough and feel comfortable enough with V1.

after a while, you'll get used to it and be able to identify which sound corresponds to which band.

oh and as for the solid loud beep. that means the signal is full strength and you should be AWARE!! there's most likely a cop nearby and you better be around PSL (posted speed limit). V1 will beep faster and faster as the signal gets stronger, until it's a solid beep (as you get closer to the signal, or as the cop behind you gets closer).

hey guys, well after searching the forum,i put the setup in as the sticky on the forum from dave at V1, i was wondering if these settings are good for my area? I put these settings in cause i thought they would be the best settngs for the V1 if not can go to default? and do it again?

i disabled the x band and pop, that what i know i disabled cause all the other settings i put in i have no clue what they do lol. How should i have the set up? i want it to alert me if there a possible threat like 3 4 dots (is that a good Amount of warning?) i dont want everyhting going off a 1 2 dots cause its prolly nothing correct? Also Whats the little lever on the V1 its not the power button it alittle level that sticks out that you udjust up and down i have no clue what that does any info on that?
