LET THE BIRTH OF MANY TESTING GROUPS HAPPEN!
You want to know what it is like doing something for the love and passion and not for the mighty dollar then look up GOL!
buyradardetectors rocks!
So far my 825 hasn't "J'd" out anything... It is quiet, but I am having some ????? about it's performance after a trip last week. So I am watching it like a hawk now...

Is it possible that a real threat is junked out because a CobraUnidenRadioShack detector is nearby and detection of its LOF or its first harmonic results in conversion of the real threat to junk?
Definitely possible, but I don't think it is too likely though since V1 also compares the signal levels. But you never know though, some units out there are pretty darn leaky, especially some older models!
IMHO it is more likely due to signal overload at close range.
Jim
I don't have a problem if this is an overload issue as the V1 has reported the threat in advance and it J's the signal when the LE vehicle is in view. I got a beautiful J event with visual confirmation of a Uniden RD dangling on a windshield last week, so I believe the J feature has merit. It's preferable to the POP blast of the X-50, IMHO.
Thank you, jim, for clarifying these issues. Consistent, explicable behavior is what I want from an RD. If a nuance is consistent, I am comfortable. My wife, OTOH, prefers silence. I think the X-50 (POP off at this time) is ideal for her.
It did not J out the KA threat for about a minute while it was going full blast. He was a few cars behind me at a light
My first V1 w/POP2 was 3.819 and was not quite as sensitive as my gold-standard v1.8 non-POP. I ebayed it and got a v3.823. Ka was verrrry close to my old V1 but after running both units together for a couple of months, I found that 3.823 not only J-ed out 3 real Ka, it also completely ignored 3 seperate continuous Ka radars I encountered. Back to V1 for upgrade. It took a couple of days longer than I had expected them to take, but I got back 3.825. So far no problems, but it has J-ed out 1 continuous Ka. He was about 300' ahead of me going the same direction, so I had about a 4-l.e.d. alert. The funny thing with 3.825 has been that it will still give the audio but switch from "1" to "J" for a couple of seconds, then the signal strength l.e.d.'s will finally extinguish and the audio alert will give the J alert and then silence. Cycling the power on and off will reset the unit back to normal. Unfortunately, he decided to shut off the radar shortly after I cycled the power, so I couldn't tell whether it was going to J it out again.
Jim
I have the latest V1 3.825 and the "J" does not work like it should - not consistent with true false from other RD and the real police radar gets a "J" with instant on sometimes on Ka band.
I've never had the new v1 J out an instant-on, just a continuous Ka radar after at least 10-15 seconds of warning.Originally Posted by Azonehits
The V1s with POP will not J out every polluting detector. They were designed that way. After reading many members' posts and comments from Mike Valentine, we will just have to live with some falsing just because of the way some polluting detectors behave. They did not want to filter out every little signal and risk missing a real Ka POP or reduce range. I've been running a non-pop v1.8 along with the newest V1 3.825 and the new one does filter out completely, some polluters that the old one alerts strongly on. No J alert or anything. It just filters them out. The new one also gives weak falses on some polluters that the old one ignores. Maybe it thinks that there's the possibility of POP radar being transmitted- I just don't know.
I have the 3.825 and it has never J'ed out on a real threat. The 825 is also quieter then my X50. The V1 is my favorite detector by far.
