1-2 miles on mine on K or Ka. Is that reasonable?

On the open road w/level terrain, yes.
How come I've seen people reporting 5+ miles range before? Is that BS?
No that can happen under perfect conditions. Long range testing has proved that RDs can detect near 10 miles. That is WAY beyond the range at which any radar can clock you.
I am lucky to get a mile here in New Jersey. Way too many hills and curvy roads. I have gotten over a mile but that is rare for me. Normally I get from 1/2 to 3/4 mile range.
Maybe with X band 15 yrs. ago. I sure wouldn't have that general expectation.Originally Posted by lordhawhaw
Keep in mind, terrain and conditions have a HUGE impact on perceived (and actual) range. In some cases (my local driving), I don't get any alert 'til I'm virtually on top of the Ka unit. You've got to be alert & ready at all times.
So far my best is 0.9 miles on K band (0.7 miles rear). But it was rainy and the road wasn't straight. And it was during a traffic stop and there might have been a car in front of the cop car.
But yea, I've only had my V1 for two months or so and I worry whether it's a dud or not due to some people claiming 2+ mile detection.
4 miles CO KA and 3 miles yesterday on K speed sign....3.826 software no reflash yet either.....

Funny this topic was brought up because I was driving back just yesterday through an area where my V-1 picked up the longest kband signal I have ever encountered.

Years ago, I had my V-1 on "L". Going southbound on M-66 in Missaukee County, MI. Just north of Lake City.
If you look at the link....find "Morey" on the map. I was going southbound just north of Morey (from around that curve) towards Lake City. I passed a Michigan State Trooper coming at me about 1/2 way to the M-42/M-66 intersection. He was running constant on/moving kband radar.
I first picked him up once I cleared that corner going southbound. We passed each other up around the 1/2 point on M-66. So I figured using extrapolation, doubling that one-way range, I would get the total range. It is just about 4 miles.
Mind you, there are two decent sized hills and two decent sized valleys in that stretch....but the tree line is a solid 50+ yards from the shoulders.
It was a very very good pick up!
