all that feature does is mess with the way the V1 alerts. More responsive will amplify the alert to seem like a higher level threat. You can use this if you have a noisy car and want to have an aggressive alert from the V1. This setting does not actually change how quickly the V1 will alert to KA. I like the feature off because you get an alert that is proportional to the strength of the KA signal.
I used it for 2 months, and I do prefer it to be off. I like the smooth ramp up better because I can have a much better sense of the LEO proximity.
Off is better for me too. For the time I had it on, the V1 would peg at max Ka for 30 seconds before I see a cop, while with it normal I'd just get a linear ramp up and 5-10secs of max before I see the cop. I'd rather have it that way and get a more linear distance estimate than having the strength boosted and clipped.
i use it on so ka-band alerts don't get drowned by false k-band signals
Off. The V1 gives plenty of warning time even without it.
Its bad becuase the V1 goes full strength way before you reach the officer, however the benefit I think is that with the V1 pegged at full strength early, fact is that you are well with in the kill zone. So I dont see the benefit of the V1 at less then full strength when you can see the officer ahead and he can see you and get your speed.
So I tolerate it on.
Today I had a huge over the hill encounter, officer driving towards me other side of a median. I got a Ka alert 2-3 dots, it increases to 3-6 as near the hill, upon going up the slope, me V1 is pegged at full, and soon after I see the officer pop over the top, our closing speed combined was 140mph.
I admit I have had other Ka encounters on long strieght aways, and almost had to mute it, it is pegged on full strengh for so long. But again, I was wellwith in the kill zone.
And as far as ramp up, it still is perfect.
One brap of the Ka tone should INSTANTLY perk you up on either case. I personally like the smoother ramp-up of normal responsiveness because it portrays more information. By the Ka tone I already know to take things very seriously, I find no additional reason to artificially boost the signal strength reported.
But at any rate, this is really not worth arguing for. Both sides of the argument have been presented, draw the conclusion you like
unless u wanna have full blast Ka for like a mile then keep it regular
I keep it off because of all the reasons jdong has said.
