Okay, so I've read this sticky thread and printed the directions from VR's site about programming, but I still have several questions and concerns some of you veterans might be able to answer.
1a. If I K-band auto mute for thirty seconds, will this setting only apply in the L-modes? If so, in A mode there should be no mute, right? This doesn't seem to be the case with my unit (3.864.) When I mute, it gets quiet in A mode as well.
1b. I saw in a neighboring thread that in little l mode, you should still hear K band in auto mute, just at the muted volume, but I don't get any sound on K, and I'm running 3.864. Thoughts?
2. If 1a is true, then does that also apply to turning off x and pop? In other words, even if I turn them off, in A mode will they be activated?
3. I've noticed that occasionally, I still get x band alerts in L mode, even when I've deactivated the band. Is the detector getting overloaded when that happens? Have you guys ever experienced a brief flash of x, when approaching automatic doors, even when you've specifically disabled x in programming mode?
4. Anybody have an e-mail address for Valentine Research? Maybe I'm just blind or something, but I can't find it on the site. Sometimes I'd rather explain issues and ask questions via e-mail, than to be rushed off the phone by somebody who clearly doesn't want to have a conversation about radar detection.
5. My V1 is only two weeks old, but I'm kinda bummed about all the false alerts (which is why I'm programming.)
To be fair, the V1 has saved my ass once already, when it picked up a Ka signal from behind from a cruiser I would have otherwise missed visually, but is the STI or Escort better for filtering out falses?
Maybe I'm just expecting too much and need to spend more time with the unit--I know some of you will definitely say that. But I'm having a little bit of buyer's remorse. The ghosting thread also resonated with my experiences. Talk me off the ledge. I want good radar coverage, but from a low maintenance unit.
