    Default Settings Opinions

    Hi All,

I have decided to reconsider my choice for disabling K band on my Valerie after what I experienced this afternoon. I saw a sheriff sitting at each of the K band Your Speed Is signs parked just in front of them letting the signs to the dirty work.

I saw a customer pulled over just down the hill from one of the signs where I presumed the sheriff had been sitting prior to the pull over. This scared me and made me reconsider my choice for disabling K band. I have now re-enabled K band on my valerie and although K band is not officially used (no police cars wit K band units that is) it still can and apparently is used by LEO's to do a speed trap type of situation (not exactly but for lack of a better term)

So I went and programmed my V1 (Valerie) to the following and let me know if you think the following is good:

    #2 - UP (K band enabled)

    #7 - DOWN (B-G features enabled)

    #B and C - DOWN
    #D - UP
Total of 15 sec K band automute

    #E - DOWN ( K band 4 LED's stay muted)

    #F - UP ( Unmute at 6 LED's)

#G - UP (Rear K band not muted)

I am running Val in L mode (Advanced Logic) mode because that way by the time I hear the alert from the K band YSI signs I will have enough time to get to the PSL (usually I don't go over by 5 MPH in the city) while still keeping the door openers and such muted.

I thought this would be good enough so that if I should forget about the YSI signs Valerie will remind me in enough time to slow down while still not letting me get annoyed over hearing the door openers. Do you think 15 sec is long enough? or perhaps too short. The override at 6 LED's (option F) should save me if I get near the signs within the first 15 secs.

Some door openers spots in town can easily take more then 15 secs if I get stopped at a light so I may up it to 30 secs while still leaving F and G as they are.

    Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?

    Thanks

    Ace

    I run little l with: 7 down - E down - F down - G down - J down with 20 Second K band Muting - (b up, C down, and d up)

    Nice balance for me.

i'm running pretty much the same setup as you are. i run in little L mode though, that way V1 doesn't decide anything for you. i'm thinking about upping to 30 secs as well

Well I did some testing and decided to change option E to UP that way nothing can sneak up on me sort of.

See I always thought that E and F were unmuting at 4 or 6 LED's on the strength meter. After carefully reading I saw that E is for the onset of a K band alert if it is 4 or more/ Option 6 is if it slowly rises to 6 it will also unmute.

Call me stupid but I never really had to deal with E and F before but after my experience seeing the LEO's sitting right in front of those signs it made me reconsider so I thought I would post this in case others were making those assumptions as well.

    Thanks

Well I believe it will take some more test driving to get the settings perfect.

It takes a while for sure to see what works for your specific area.

What works for me and where I live may not work at all for you and where you live.

I run mine in "Maximum Standoff" mode, basically:

    1. disable X-band.

    Advanced mode. (big "L")

I may be wrong but if you disable X band on the V1, the little "l" and big "L" modes do nothing unless you have set up the K band muting.

too lazy to go check, but i believe in big L mode, V1 decides what to alert you to when it comes to K band. in little L mode, it tells you everything?

Big L mode, with K-Band muting enabled, only shows and tells you when K-Band goes to 4 dots. Little l mode will only show you, and tell you at a preset muted volume.
