Default Advice on travelling through VA with my V1.....

Taking a trip next month from NC up to MI. I know radar detectors are illegal in VA. But do I need to actually remove my VI from my windshield or can I just turn it off?

I'm going through the western part of the state and will probably only be in VA for 50-75 miles. Sort of ticks me off if I spend all the time to get it perfectly aligned on the windshiled for a 12 hr trip and I need to remove it and then re-align it again because of a short pass through in VA.

Wasn't sure if VA law said you simply can't have a RD actually on and working and you could leave it on the windshield but turned off or whether I need to completely take it down.

    Thx!

My understanding is that the radar detector has to be off and out of the passenger cabin, so in the trunk.

I'm not sure if that's the law, but that's what I would do. Take a pit stop just before VA and take it down, and then take a pit stop just after and put it back up.

Just leave the thing up and running. I have yet to see a member of this forum post that they have received a ticket for having a detector in VA. If you get a radar alert on your V1, slow down and turn it off. I think since you're only traveling like 75 miles through VA the chances of getting caught with it are pretty limited. Anyway, good luck and safe driving.

I wouldn't take ANY chances on a state where they post a sign telling you they are illegal....

It is not rocket science ya know.....Slide it out of the bracket and leave the cups on the window it does not take that long to click it back in place until it level
My friend got a ticket in va for his RD, they can take them too.
    I would not risk it.

I would say keep your speed with 10 MPH of the limit and keep the V1 up and running. Dont brake hard on any alert and turn it off you think its a cop( ramp up). Easy.

VA uses Spectre IV's and they can EASILY sniff out V1's 1.8 firmware 3.851 and up. I would not do this UNLESS you have a V1 v1.8 firmware 3.826 and below

RDD's are only effective when the detector is on, leave it on the windscreen, remove the cord, dont get pulled over for anything else, and you'll have no issue

I would have a disposable Cobra handy just in case.
