Default Where to mount and how on BMW750LI

I just got a BMW750LI and want to mount on front windshield. The window has a solar coating on it that is supposed to diminish the V1's ability to pick up signals. There is a very small area by the RVM, that does not have this coating, but it is difficult to mount the unit there unless someone has an idea for me? Does anyone have any good suggestions for me, as I really dont like to drive without my V1? I will also be using the concealed display with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Is it difficult b/c you can't use suction cups or is wiring difficult? Please explain. If you can't use suction cups you may have to go with a visor mount...there are a couple of other options but let us know.

Where exactly is the open area with no coating?

The issue is that the area at the top of the windshield is a small cut out just right and left of the RVM. The rest of the glass is coated. So when i try and mount the V1 there it 1. leaves hardly any room for adjusting the mirror and 2. it does not allow me to mount the V1 horizontal. It is kind of pointing upward which is ok for the rear sensor but not so good for the front sensor. I can try the visor mount but then I am lower than the cut out and shooting right through the coating. I tried the V1 aiming through it, knowing my usual radar traps and falses and it definitely seems to decrease the V1 ability! this is my problem! Also there is a small area at the bottom of the windshield that also has a cut out, but i would rather not have it in plain sight! Any help would be appreciated!

A bit of a radical option, but if you have a remote display, you might mount the V1 behind the grill of your 750 for a really remote set up.

A second thought ... I hate to sound like I'm questioning you, but are you sure this is the only opening in the coating?

If not in the manual, maybe the dealer (or one of his techs) has some info on this.

A third option...ahhh, not that you want to do this on a brand new car, but an aftermarket windshield? Maybe they all have the coating, but might be worth looking into.

With such a sweet riding touring beast as that bimmer, it really will cut into your driving pleasure not to have the full use of your RD.

Keep us informed of what you learn.

One other thing occurs to me. There's at least a couple other members who drive late model B-cars. Can't remember their handles though. One with 7 series, the other with an 07 5 series. Surely they encountered the same problem.

Any one know these guys? I'll look around a bit.

    Further to my last note,

jerry540i might be one of 'em...but I'm not sure. Just guessing from his name.

Hmm - can you post a picture of where the cutouts are? Does your mirror mount shaft move up or down at all where it connects to the windshield? (sorry to ask a silly question, but I didn't know mine did for awhile). I have seen some people use quite a number of homemade mounts so if we could see exactly what is happening maybe someone on here can come up with a solution. Thanks!

I will take pictures of the two cut out areas and see if you can come up with something. I will post ASAP. Thanks for the help! Dan

I took pictures of the windshield and have them on my computer. I am not sure how to post them! Can anyone give me step by step instructions?

That athermic windshield coating is bad news and makes it very difficult to run any windshield mounted RD. You might have to look into one of the Belscort remote RDs(Escort 9500ci or Bel STi-R). I think tiger17 has a high end BMW, you might want to PM him.
