    Default a couple questions

Ok, for you experienced V1 peeps out there.... I had some questions.

First I am coming from an X50 and I noticed that the V1 likes to go off Ka whenever a crapra is around somewhere. It does a fairly decent job in "J"-ing the bogus threat out but most of the time I am already on the brakes or at least killed the cruise control. I turned off POP thinking it might fix this problem as it did on the X50 I had, but I haven't driven enough to find that answer out yet.... Will that help???

Also I was wondering what the KA "more responsive" feature did on the V1. I know it can't be a sensitivity thing because the default is not having that feature on. So what exactly does the feature do??

I really like the V1. I was really not sure at first glance because it looks sooo old, however being somewhat of an enthusiast on this hobby I looked at the test results from GOL an just HAD to give it a shot. I have driven over 20,000 miles on the V1, most of them highway and the only threats I have not been saved from is IO. Which IO is a problem on any detector, so no problems at all with the V1. I just wanted these couple of questions answered before I messed with my settings any more than I have already.

Turning off POP will decrease Ka band false alerts and "J outs" from crappy detectors but it will not get rid of "J outs" altogether. Turning on Ka more responsive makes a regular Ka alert seem more urgent by lighting up leds more quickly and making far away Ka alerts sound like an instant-on hit. I tried driving around with it more responsive and it drove me nuts because you can't judge where a cop is because every Ka alert ramps up to an almost steady beep very quickly.

The V1, indeed, is surprisingly effective at J-ing out false Ka leak sources like other detectors, even with POP enabled. Disabling POP will reduce the number of these J-outs significantly but not eliminate them completely. There is a balance between zealous filtering and rejection of legitimate radar sources... the V1 errs on the side of caution while Bel/Escort filtering algorithms seem to prefer quietness over caution to quick-triggered radar (half-second pull of the trigger will usually not set off a Belscort... and yes in many cases cops can get locks this fast)

Personally, I'd say wait a few secs after an alert before reacting to it, unless of course it BAM comes in at full strength... the V1 is an extremely sensitive detector and affords you PLENTY of time to make a smooth decision rather than panicking at every little beep.

Also I was wondering what the KA "more responsive" feature did on the V1. I know it can't be a sensitivity thing because the default is not having that feature on. So what exactly does the feature do??
It roughly doubles the signal strength indication for Ka. For example, a 3-bar alert on less responsive is a 6-bar alert on more responsive. I personally keep it off because like JAZZY I found it causing Ka signals to be at full strength for 2 minutes before seeing the cop car, and I'd rather have linearity of alerts. Others like it because this will almost always cause Ka alerts to be prioritized over anything on other bands, so in busy city areas with ambient X/K alerts, Ka jumps right out at you.

The V1's interface might look really old, but honestly as someone who's used more "advanced" displays, I find myself preferring the V1's light-up display where everything has a dedicated position. This makes it MUCH easier to do a quick glance at the detector to see what's going on, rather than having to more carefully examine a dot-matrix display for its current information.
