    Default L mode doesn't filter a particular X bogey

I've had a V1 for several years (a 1.7, and for the past year, a 1.8, pre-POP). I always run in L mode since I do lots of city driving and X isn't used much/at all by LEOs around here.

Anyway, my question stems from a particular X bogey that the L mode doesn't seem to be filtering out at all. It is either a drone emitter or traffic sensor on one of the traffic lights in the city, and my V1 picks it up from 1/2 mile away, even when I'm coming at it from a right angle. It'll start alerting to this bogey with 1 dot, when normally L mode filters out weak X band signals. When I switch to A mode, I pick up this bogey at the same distance as in L mode.

At first I thought L mode wasn't working at all, but one time while I was in a bank parking lot (my wife went in while I waited in the car), my V1 started sounding X on and off, at 3-4 bars or so. I switched to A mode and then the bogey came on and stayed on, hovering between 2 and 4 dots. Switching to l or L mode muted the bogey. So that proves that L mode is working, for the X false at the bank, but why isn't it muting the X transmitter at the traffic light, even when I'm far away and it's only a 1 dot strength?

Any ideas? Does anyone "know" V1's logic mode algorithm for determining what X bogeys are to be filtered or not filtered?

    The exact algorithm? No.
But it isn't as simple as just cutting sensitivity or setting higher thresholds, and is probably pretty complex. In addition to signal strength, it also takes into account number of sources, direction, and other data available to the detector

Some of the filtering is similar to what you can set in programming options B through G (for K-band) should give you somewhat of an idea of some of the parameters involved.

Do L or l modes actually filter out K alerts as well or are they meant for X band only?

It is only supposed to affect X band according to Valentine Research but others have suggested that it filters K band as well.

Yeah, here's the deal with that.
For "true filtering" it is x band only, but "l' and "L" will affect k band with option 7 changed from default.
It doesn't actually "filter" k band, it puts a time delay before alerting to k band.
"l' mode works the same as "A" mode, but it reports k band at the volume set by the fader ring, so you will get the alerts immediately, just at a lower volume.
"L" mode actually works with the time delays, depending on what options you have changed.

Now 3.824 apparently has a problem with option 7 not working.
Also, some of the guys here have reported that 3.825 includes "true k band filtering".
Hopefully someone can/will test that out for us, so we know for sure.

Yeah, I will know pretty soon, I just need to get my V1 back from USA to Europe, I'm having it upgraded to 3.825... We'll see.

It does not filter K alerts. The Logic and Advance Logic mode only auto mutes X band which is VR factory settings- see page 16 of your manual. When programed, you can auto mute K alert but not filter it in Logic or Advance Logic mode only. When you stated "filter out", are you talking about muting it or minimizing K alerts regardless of audible sound or visual alerts?

    Hi,
actually it somewhat reduced the K alerts from "false" sources in my opinion, it was more quiet than in A mode (even on K, I have X turned off) leading me into thinking that there is some filtering on K band as well.

Did you enable option 7 in your new set up?

Yes, and it works tremendously well. Muting now works for the first time (before I had version 3.816 and abcd options gave no results), now it works very well. It is silent until the strength meter reaches the determined number of leds. Very, VERY good. Plus Euro mode is very useful, if you drive in the area where there are no known K band radars, you just switch from "U" to "u" mode, it then sweeps Ka band only thus resulting in complete silence of V1 (unless there is Ka radar around...). I am very satisfied with new software indeed.
