If I read the manual right, if I have X band turned off, l and L are of no use, as they only mute/etc. X band sources?

l and L mode reduce the sensitivity on the V1 to X and K band (Ka is not effected) without X and pop the v1 is extremely quiet as it is so run it in A mode...if u still want the v1 more quiet there are a lot of options for muting K band for 4 or 6 bars or from behind if u do not wat to turn if off (dont turn it off) In texas i believe the DPS uses Ka and laser...texas people comment?
Yeah, I have POP and X off. I don't want any decreased sensitivity, so I will keep it on A.
Both in Longview and Tyler, K and Ka can be found pretty easily, whether it be motorbike or patrol car. The state troopers definitely uses Ka, never been shot with Laser this far east though.
Two weeks ago, I found out by experience that Tyler has a laser gun though.
You won't exactly decrease sensitivity, you'll decrease awareness due to the mute alert level of Little l mode.
In big L mode is where you lose 'sensitivity', but really you just lose more alertness because it doesn't even show the alerts until it meets the threshold.
Are you sure there's no X band in Longview or Tyler? I've seen X band on my way to Longview before. If you're sure then run it in A mode with X and pop off, I doubt you'd go through many K falses...
BTW I went to visit a friend couple of years ago, and I had to drive to the other side of town to get alcohol, lol.

Keep it in A mode. With X and POP off you will be good to go. I was sitting in a driveway the other day receiving a weak k-band false. It was lighting 2 dots in A mode however when i switched to L mode it disappeared then i switched back to A mode and received 2 dots. Personally That 2 dots is what many of my IO cases look like so be safe and keep in A mode.
I completely see you point. I run my V1 'raw', no muting A mode, but with X off.
(I don't understand people muting it until xx lights. It could very well be IO like you said. Unless of course, when they get on the highway they turn the mute completely clockwise again.)
But when hockey said that it reduced the K band as well, I was off of the consonants. I now feel much better.
The V1 can get pretty chatty from picking up off-axis signals if you don't mute it at all.... Muting it auditorially and keeping the alerts displayed visually allows the driver (paying attention to the V1) to know if a possible situation ahead but not irritate everyone around him.
Speed Cheetah Mirror does a better job for me than k-band automute. I set my threshold at 35mph. That's where most of my falses occur in slow city traffic not to mention when I'm going faster they are brief.
