Default How to fix suction cups losing suction while on the road?

It's one of those days when the suction cups are literally "on strike" and the V1 keeps flying off the windshield. Even rubbing them with some skin oil won't revive them and make them stick. Is there any other tricks to make them stick while you are on the road?

Lick both of the suction cups, It worked everytime I move around my V1 in different cars when all of them don't stick before licking them.

Some people have suggested boiling the suction cups, but you obviously can't do that while you're on the road.

You should make sure the spot you're trying to stick them to is very clean, and also try breathing on them right before you stick it to the glass. I've tried the skin oil thing too, and that usually does the trick. Aside from that I've got nothing.

    Sounds like its time for...

3M or Radio Shack Superlock fasteners!

Modify the V1 bracket by removing its suction cups, attach a strip of 3/16" thick aluminum bar and secure it at the suction cup points with pop rivets and thin washers or whatever is necessary, install two 1" squares of Superlock fastener material atop the aluminum bar near where each suction cup would have been, and install another piece of Superlock on your windshield. I don't know if this is exactly what would work (never having seen the V1 bracket up close). Yet you should be able to figure out something which is pretty easy to implement. Of note, be sure to clean all surfaces with isopropyl alcohol before applying the Superlock.

Got any pic of this setup?

Wouldn't the Superlock on the windshield be a dead giveaway to the car thief?

If you mount the Superlock behind the top tint strip or in the black "bubble" area, then it is barely visible from outside your car. Here is how I did it although it isn't specific for the V1 mounting bracket.

Thieves look for suction cups it seems, assuming that the suction cup marks indicate either a RD or a GPS device. I don't know what they would make of the Superlock stuff if they spotted it behind the tint strip. Maybe they would assume it is for one of those toll both pass things?

I've used that superlock stuff and it will rip the adheasive off before the material will part. I would go with an RVM mount, unless your RVM is the wrong size.

Keep your detector inside with you when not using it and every month soak the cups over night in water or windex
