    Default Specific hardwire question......

Just picked up a 2008 Audi A4 Quattro as a daily driver for the wife(and my nasty weather car ) and want to put in a V1 hardwire kit. I would prefer to tap the fuse box by the drivers side. Have any of you guys done this on an A4 and know what fuse is best to go with? Looking for switched of course but all the fuses seem high (15-20 amp)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 06. Don't use fuse tap. Do it properly and use "Add A Fuse" with the lowest rated fuse. I use an "unused" socket to get power from the fuse box.

You can use a fuse tap, as long as you leave the on the V1's fuse, as for the slot use a switched lead 15 amps or less should be ok. As for an add a fuse it is only rated up to 10 amps, so you should only use a spot in the fuse box that is 10 amps or less.

My bad. I meant the ad a fuse, that is how I had it on the VW Treg and have the same on my car. Was just not sure which fuse or amp rating was ok.

Any problem with using a 30 amp fuse? the add a circuit uses 2 fuses and I've only gone with 10 or 15 amp? Any idea of which is switched at 10 or 15?

    Thanks for the replies.

We'll do, thanks. Not enjoying the coiled cord going up to the RVM. I'm "allowed" to do anything to car I want, as long as she can't really notice it.

If you use a higher amperage fuse other than 15, it's like having no fuse at all. Since the V1 doesn't draw as much current(as any other electronic gadget), you wanna use a low resistance fuse.

As for 30 amps, it is way too high. If you go the add a fuse route, find a spot that is 10 amps or lower. On the add a fuse there is directions, but I think spot 1 is for the original fuse and the second spot is for the V1. For the second spot try to use a 3 amp or less.

You can use any fuse you want as long as you use the stock V1 adapter with the built-in 1 amp fuse on the live wire. You are essentially double fusing. I use 2 amp fuse on my Add-A-Circuit just to be on the safe side. On the Add-A-Circuit, the fuse slot closest to the pig tail is the one for the V1. The other one is for the original circuit.
