Default My Valentine One v3.824 almost let me down today ...

Coming back from Lake Charles, LA., I was following a guy in a "riced" out Honda Accord. He had a Bel radar detector, from what I could see of it, but I could not determine the model number. The actual funny part of this story is his radar detector was mounted as if he were looking for radar in the sky. The actual display was facing downward towards his dashboard and the antenna part was looking up in the sky. I am amazed at how many times I have seen people do this.

Anyway, we were driving between 85 - 90 mph on the Atchafayala Bridge and a Louisiana State Trooper was pulled over on the side of the road with his trunk opened. He was standing outside of his car, by the back right tire, using laser. I was traveling about 300 feet behind the Honda Accord and the trooper nailed him. Bad thing about this whole encounter was my V1 NEVER alerted me to a laser signal. I was following the recommended distance, hoping my V1 would pick up "scatter," but it remained silent. I drive a Ford Explorer and I have the radar detector mounted right above my rear view mirror. So much for the off-axis coverage.

Earlier, and this is my main complaint today, my V1 "J" junked out a real police radar signal of KA band. I was driving WEST bound on I-10 and the trooper was parked EAST bound, immediately past an oversection, to the right, just out of sight for oncoming traffic. He was radaring out of his rear antenna. I picked up a KA signal of 2 to 3 on my signal strength meter and then silence, because the detector warned me that the signal was "J" for junk. I immediately turned off my detector, turned it back on, waited for the trooper to turn on his KA band radar again (by this time I had passed him on the opposite side of the interstate). After waiting quite a few seconds, my detector alert to a rear signal of KA band, with 1 or 2 signal strength and then "J'ed" out again. Granted, the radar detector did alert me, but this is NOT a good situation to be in. I have lost confidence in my V1.

I checked the V1 website and it says I have the latest and greatest V1 available. What's the main difference between v3.824 and v3.825?

    Thanks,

    CK

3.825, as far as I know, fixes the option 7 (K automute) bug, and it addresses, at least partially, the J-ing out of real alerts.

As for your laser encounter, off-axis laser detection is hit or miss at best. The beam is so narrow that it's possible in some cases for there to be no scatter for your V1 to pick up. But then that's why you follow a patsy, right? Veil and a Laser Shield would be a good investment, and (if you can afford it), a laser jammer.

Soon, I will be driving a company car and I know I will not be allowed to make any modifications to it, so that's why I rely so heavily on a sucker and my V1.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to write V1 and see what they recommend. I just bought my RD less than 5 months ago.

Is this a company car that you have exclusive use of, or a shared vehicle?

If it's just for your use, you should still be able to use Veil and a Laser Shield on it. Veil comes right off with Windex or alcohol, and the Laser Shield just attaches over the front plate. If you don't use a front plate where you are, then you don't need a Laser Shield, just Veil.

I would guess a company car would preclude a jammer though.

Iam going to say since the cop saw you moving the same speed as the car in front of you there is no reason to target you with laser
