Run the serial number through the website and see what version it is. Call up V1 and see if it was reported stolen. If you're buying it for more then $250 I wouldn't do it because a new one comes with a warranty and the latest firm version. The latest version still has glitches though DOH!

Like he said..get the serialnumber off the label on the bottom. Run the number on V1s website. They retail for $400 new so if it really is the latest version $300 isnt bad.

Tell him to keep it since the 1 year warranty is not transferable to others(except to family members upon agreement by VR).
You can just call VR and order a returned unit with full warranty and it is a new unit for $360.00 and it is registered to you with a 30 day return gaurentee.

however, I plug in the S/N to the web site .. it's said as below

Now need to read the manual and learn how to set it up

    Thanks

Upgrade Proposal for Your Valentine One

Our Euro Mode Upgrade* for this series of V1 will produce the following benefits:

    * Improved performance on European photo radar:

You will enjoy longer radar range and fewer false alarms in European driving. Euro Mode adapts V1ís radar sensitivity to the way radar is used for photo enforcement in Europe. It narrows and intensifies radar coverage to K and the sections of Ka bands applied there to photo radar. X band is not covered in Euro Mode. (V1 is already optimized for North American radar as it comes from the factory. Euro Mode is not appropriate for driving here.)

You don't have the latest V1, but it should be fine for driving in North America (no need for Euro mode around here). What firmware version does it have? Probably 3.818 or 3.819 if it has POP but not Euro.

You can get the firmware version by:

    1) Hold the button down while turning on the unit. Keep the button held down until all the LEDs light up (about 5 seconds).

    2) Release the button, and then press and release it once.

    3) The firmware version will flash sequentially in the bogey counter. If you have 3.819, you'll see the sequence "3." "8" "1" "9", then blank, then it repeats.

    4) Turn off the power to return to normal mode.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

3.818 detectors seem to have a problem with "junking" out real Ka radar from time to time. Just be aware of it and if it happens to you then send it in for a FREE upgrade to version 3.819. You don't need Euro mode so there's no point in wasting your money.

clw, POP can be activated on some K and Ka band units.
