Exclamation Loads of false alarms

Hey everyone, I currently have the "latest and greatest" from V1. I just bought it last week . Heres what V1s site says on the upgrade page.

V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.8—POP2 with Euro Mode. This is our latest and best performer on both radar and laser.

Upgrade Recommendation: You already have our best.

I am getting a TON of automatic door readings and pollutions on the K and X band everywhere I go pretty much. I use to have a Cobra many months back and honestly the V1 is not much better on the false alarms. Now after I had my Cobra, I had borrowed my friends V1 which was a little older I believe and POP was either not on it at all, or just not enabled, Im not too sure. But basically that was the ideal detector. It RARELY ever got any false alarms at all and was just so perfect, but the day I gave his back and got my new one let me say I was honestly dissatisfied. I turned POP off on my V1 and it is pretty much the exact same (false alarm wise). What can I do to stop this madness? Should I really turn off X and K bands all the way? I am mounting in the exact same spot on the exact same car and everything I just dont get why Im getting all this false alarm crap. I love the V1 and the Valentine Corp. and will continue to be a parton because I know there is a solution to this. The last 3 of my serial are "974" and my version is 3.871. Thanks!

Not to be a smart ass, but it is a radar detector, not a cop detector. The door openers operate on radar. I dont know where you live, but you might want to look into turning off X band as that will really cut down on the falses. Only turn it off if your positive that X is not used in your area.

Yup, I know that a lot of things operate on radar but im just displeased that my V1 is more prone to false alarms than another one if you know what I mean. I live 40 minutes north of chicago in the suburbs. Should I just turn off the X band altogether?

I guess you are dissatisfied that it is doing what it was meant to do. What I would do is turn off x-band after you are sure no one uses it in your town. Then I would setup the "auto" mute for k-band, use a 30 second mute. With these setting it should be much quieter. But remember that the V1 was designed as a highway detector. That is what is does best. If you really wanted a quiet detector than your only choice is a gps enabled unit such as the 9500ix. Personally i could not give up the rear horn, arrows and bogy counter. But I keep the v1 for the highway and in the city use a Bel 955.

Your friends V1 has most likely fallen out of tune if it has that so fewer false alerts then your new V1.

The V1 is widely known for its falsing, so a V1 that isn't falsing (IMO) is a bad sign.

X/K band door automatic door-openers run on the exact same frequency as police radar, there are very few ways to effectively 'reduce' or 'eliminate' false alerts, its just something most RD users have to deal with.

Do not turn off K band, and I would wait awhile before I turned off X-band, unless you are positive its not used in your area.

Tell your buddy to send his unit in for a tune-up, because... it sounds like a classic case of a V1 thats out of tune vs. a new V1 thats in-tune.

Your RD is working like it should.

Turn OFF X-Band & POP. Setup K-Band auto muting.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I will be turning off X band, automuting K band 30 sec., and re-enabling POP mode and see how that goes.

Am I missing something? Are all of you telling this new V1 user to turn off X band without even asking where he lives?

Jmannumber7, where do you live and drive? There are lots of places that still use X band in the USA. Please do not turn off X band unless you are positive that it is not used in your driving areas.

I am 99.99% sure there is no X in my area and I am still leaving it on. I knew a department that held onto an old X band gun and blew the dust off it every now and then just to screw with people. Be very sure before turning that off. I run big "L" most all the time and that takes care of my X problem. K and Ka still very good.
