    Programming Instructions: http://valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp

If there's no X band in your area, run in L mode, or turn X off completely in programming mode.

I turned on option 5 on my RD so that I get a stronger Ka band alert. I have been noticing some very low power, quick trigger Ka incidents lately so I wanted to crank up the urgency of the Ka alerts. This option just makes those alarms start at a 3 bar alert.

Other than that I typically run L mode in town, and A mode on the highway. It may take you a little while to map out all your normal day to day driving routes and alarms(how many, what band etc.) Once you know your area and what to expect the V1 is pretty nice. It will tell you when things are abnormal, and when to be on your toes. It may seem a bit chatty and overwhelming at first, but if you give it some time I think you will find the information comforting after you become used to the way the V1 communicates.

Congrats on the new detector. I think you will love it.

My thoughts exactly. The V1 gives a lot of information. You can use the consistency of the false alerts to your advantage. You will quickly learn when an alert pattern is abnormal, plus you still get high sensitivity.

I hear a lot of people say they don't use the V1 in town. I personally think that is a mistake. Once you have your routes figured out the V1 is your best friend in telling you what is going on. Frankly I think around town driving with the V1 is even more telling than on the highway IMHO.

Good luck with your new V1.

Enjoy your V1. Listen carefully and get to know the alert sounds, especially the "added-bogey" sound. I only look at my V1 if I need to use the arrows. Otherwise, the audible alerts provide all I need.

What is option 6: false alarm gaurd for KA? What does that do.

Option 5: more responsive for KA? Will the V1 pick up KA at a greater distance with this enabled?

not a greater distance but a usual KA1 will now be a KA 3....stronger alert than a normal.

False alarm guard is the feature the filters out cheap polluting detectors. Turn that off and you will get considerably more Ka band false alerts.
