V1 & Laser encounter !

Location: Michigan, US-127 north bound, 55 mph section.

Weather: Overcast, 70 degrees, 75% humidity, 30.21 in pressure

Measures: LIDAR, K-band

Countermeasuers: Valentine One

Speed: 63 MPH

Description: Ok I was driving today heading back up north. I passed a lady driving an SUV and slowed back down to about 63 and she got pissed and passed me. So she proceeded to pass me and once she was about 100 yards in front of me driving in tandem with another driver, I noticed on the right side of the road the front end of a State PO hidden behind some trees. Just as I saw the window of the PO's car, the V1 went bonkers on laser. I though, holy s**t he got me. My first reaction was to turn off cruise control. The laser alert lasted about three seconds. Just as I pass him, I see him pull out behind me. As he pulls out, he turns on the in-car k-band full blast. I watch my rear view mirror and he passes me. He goes on and pulls that lady over.

My question is this, did I get saved by getting scatter off the SUV or do you think that the PO had enough time to target all three of us and he chose to go for the one that was speeding more? Check out the picture to see the diagram explaining the situation.

If the LEO is stationary running laser, he/she will attempt to stop the fastest vehicle. In your example, I believe that if you were being blocked by any of the vehicles ahead of you, then you most likely picked up scatter. If the distance betweeb your vehicle and the one ahead of you was a fair distance, then the LEO would have enough time to sample all of your speeds easily. Your good long range observation skills are what made the difference.

Today they were out in full force, end of the month. The funny thing is people always say that you might not get laser by mounting high but mine is mounted high and it seemed to work fine. My gut instinct is scatter too, but I want others opinions.

My guess is that you were directly targeted by the lidar and the leo also targeted the other vehicles. Once he was underway, he used his radar to verify or perhaps he was hoping for a higher speed reading while he was closing on his victim.

Due to the fact you weren't the fastest vehicle, you were saved by the woman's immature passive/agressive response to being passed by you earlier. She deserved a ticket IMHO. I detest drivers like that.

I think you picked up scatter. I don't think that he would measure your speed if he already had a player. I pick up laser pretty good and mine is mounted pretty high. I think it would be easier for it to see scatter from cars in front of you if mounted higher. I've been hit with laser a few times and it doesn't seem to have a problem picking it up. Then again, I've passed a few police cars and haven't picked up anything. I'm not sure if they hit me and I didn't pick it up, or they just didn't gun me because they didn't think I was worthy. The times I've passed by them though, it didn't look like they were doing anything though, so I am going to assume I pick it up pretty well when I'm bieng hit.

Personally I also think I got scatter but I just can't be sure because I was too busy checking my speed to look at the PO. Either way it sure got my blood boiling.

Scatter. I wouldn't really call picking up scatter a save unless your rabbit wasn't speeding.
