Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
I just bought my Valentine V1, ( Coming from an Escort 8500 X50 ) And I need to make this guy less sensitive ! I turned on big L mode, and it still constantly falses in the city. I'm sure this guy would do amazing along the highway, but I currently don't use it as much as I hoped I would. Can anyone tell me any settings that I could possibly use in the re-program mode ? Yes, I have read upon all of this re-programming, and I still don't know what to leave on or off. How do you activate the auto mute feature. Do I have to press the knob every single time ?
I get a lot of falses on X Band, but I live in NJ. The only time I have encountered X Band in NJ was on the parkway. Does this mean only NJ State Police use Xband ? Is it safe to turn off xband in south jersey in the city ?
Re: Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
I live in NY, and frankly I just kill my V1 (or turn the volume down so I get the lights but not the noise) when I'm on any side streets. Cops around here don't run many speed traps on the side streets so I don't bother.
If you read the V1 book or check their site they have the list of codes to turn things on and off, but I'd say you're better just turning your volume knob down when you don't need it.
NJ State Trooper: KA band (updated 08/07/2008)

X - 1.8 miles = false location. non forward-facing.
K - 2.2 miles = real radar. non forward-facing.
KA - 3.6 miles = real radar. non forward-facing. "V1 is a religion, and I'm a believer." “Once you live with the arrows, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without them”
Re: Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
In NJ thats going to be hard... especially because X-band is still a real-threat.
I simply refuse to use my V1 in the city where I live, there is no way to make it quiet on an acceptable level...
This is why I always own more then one detector... on the open highway/thruway I use the V1 and in the city/suburbs I use a Belscort product. Did you get rid of the X50? That is one of the best (non-GPS enabled) city detectors there is.. and you should use that in the city and the V1 on the highway only IMO.
But you can try to customize settings if you wish on the V1. Check out the V1 website for more info.
Re: Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
Yeah, automute requires pushing the knob everytime. I've set mine to mute K for 30 seconds, cause there's K on the highway, none in the city.
If you had a cheetah gps mirror, you could get the wireless interface. When you select "City mute" with one touch of a button, when a radar signal is encountered, a voice announces--just once--"K band", or "X band".
Really quiets down the racket!

Re: Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
woah woah woah my friend...u need to keep the v1 on A mode because of the sensitivity of X band is maximized...u can fool around with some of the K band muting but ehh idk man..just Pop off in NJ...
scroll down to the NJ section and look see that NJSP uses X, Ka and laser..also all 3 bands are are used in NJ
Re: Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
Is there X band automuting on the V1? Or is it only with K band? Personally if If I was in NJ and driving mainly in the city, I would have gone with the 9500i or atleast the whistler pro 78 because their really good with handling false alerts, especially because your going to have to leave everything on with the exception of POP because they have everything over there.
The V1 is more prone to false alerts than any other RD...except maybe an STI-R

Re: Just got my Valentine, How do I make it less sensitive ?
1. You can't 'decrease' sensitivity of the V1.
2. Try both of the 'L' modes, Big L and Little L.
3. Try the K-Band automuting.
4. Township LEO's use X too, so keep it on even in the city.
I suggest you set up K-Band automuting to some degree, place the V1 in Little L, and turn the initial volume all the way down. This way you can still see the alerts, but you won't hear them until they become more threatening.
The V1 is made in such a way to let the user know of everything that is going on, so they don't miss any signal.
Form what it sounds like, you should have kept the X50.
