Default HOW TO: V1 Remote Audio Adapter Mod

This will let you just mount the knob where ever you want, and not worry about the huge case.

1.) To get the board out of the case, first pull both the volume and mute knobs straight off. Then there are two screws on the bottom, and remove the labels front and back.

2.)With a solder sucker or solder wick, remove all the solder from the 10 pins holding the knob assembly to the board.

3.)Remove the knob assembly and solder on leads to all 10 pins.

4.) Add heatshrink to make sure nothing is shorting since all the connections are so close.

5.) Connect the leads to correct pins back on the board.

6.) Test it out, gotta make sure it works before you put it back together.

7.) You could use heat shrink, but the stuff I have isn't long enough, so I just wrapped all the wires together with electrical tape. You can also put the two knobs back on.

8.) Put it back into the case to keep everything together. The labels should still be sticky enough to just put them back on.

    Finished Product:

Nice mod Reb. Going to have to do this one myself as I am tired of reaching up to the passenger side visor to adjust volume. Thanks for the info.

Now if you could just post where to get the proper sized nut to screw on those threads.

I did this mod to my remote audio a while back but I've had to jerry rig it in place and would prefer to use the proper sized nut. Been to several hardware stores with no luck yet.

BTW thanks for sharing the great pics. I had a few people asking me how I did mine and I had no pics to post.

Best place to go is a special screw and bolt store. Around my parents house we have one or if you know the exact size and threat pitch you can order them directly from McMaster-Carr

Tried that. They didn't seem too interested in helping for such a small sale. I guess I could check around some more.

The place I go to is not like that. Sorry for you. Right now in this economy they should not be picky.

McMaster Carr is awesome. I used them all the time with my summer job, usually 2-3 orders from them a week. As for holding it in, I just used a bunch of hot glue.

This one is for a friend, should have finished pictures tomorrow. Putting a V1 with the CD in the dash and this in the console, should be a pretty top notch V1 system. I'm also installing my LIs and new switch panel tomorrow .
