    Default x and k

my x and k band on my unit is completly out of wack, but for some reason my ka and laser seem to work fine, and this is in the A mode. is this possible? is something in my unit broken to where it makes my x and k not work but my ka and laser to work? very weird.

Anything is possible, but a problem like that isn't too likely I wouldn't think. Inside the V1, X and Ku take a different signal path than K and Ka, also K and Ka are both received at the same time in the oscillator sweep by the way the signals are mixed. So more than likely a problem with K would also effect Ka.

But at any rate, if you are concerned about the performance of the detector I recommend sending it in to Valentine Research for a check up.

If your LO goes out of tune it can affect K, and probably X as well. Since Ka is a wider band it may seem to still work, depending on how far the LO is off and the frequency of Ka guns in use in your area.

Definitely send the unit into VR if you suspect it isn't working right. They'll fix it up good as new for you.

I have mine in because it was missing *some* K bogeys. X and Ka seemed fine (actually, it seemed even more responsive on X than normal), and since K still worked most of the time I figure my LO was only slightly out of tune.

Kpats, do you have to pay a fee to have it tuned to original specs?

No charge if the V1 is still under warranty. They charge $45 for out of warranty repairs, but I've heard they sometimes waive the charge.
