    Default Used Valentine, Skeptical

So, I picked up this used Valentine One off of Craigslist a few days ago. It's a V1.8 (haven't checked revision yet) and it isn't as sensitive as the last Valentine I had. The last one would pick up the automatic door openers from a good distance, and this one doesn't pick up 95% of the ones the last one did. Although, I can verify that the laser does work because I was lasered by a state trooper the other night.

But today was weird. I'm doing 60 in a 40 going around a bend that I travel very frequently and have never seen any LEO activity here. As I start to come out of the corner, I see two vehicles parked off to the side where another street intersects. I let off the gas. Then my V1 picks up laser. I start to brake, thinking I'm definitely getting pulled over. I bring my speed down to 40 as my eyes are scanning the shoulder for the LEO with the laser gun. To my surprise, there was two LEOs out of their cars talking to each other, not even looking in my direction.

I thought laser could only be shot from a handheld gun operated by a person. Are there stationary Laser guns now that shoot automatically?

Not automatic ones, not that i know of no. There are tripods for some of them and so forth but they still would have to be "shot" by a person. Maybe they shot you when you were still to far out to see them clearly and because you let off the gas before you were shot you were below thier threshold for pulling someone over. Maybe they were having a contest see who could get the biggest one and he wanted someone bigger.

Here we go, we were just discussing this on another thread,
you need to send it in for a tune up, that's why the guy on Craigslist dumped it.
The laser thing could be someone going the oposite direction w/laser cruise control, you can make it go off my driving into direct sunlight and hitting your windshield washer, creates some kind of rainbow prism or something.
Another LEO shooting that you did not see and the ones you saw were chase LEO's

Thanks, I was hoping that maybe this one was just newer and less sensitive to door openers but just as good at detecting real radar, but I guess this isn't the case?

How much are tune-ups running these days?

    Thank you.

So as you mentioned, this is a V1.8, no POP or Euro mode, but that's fine.

Is the unit programmed for factory defaults???

    2. Where is your unit mounted?

    3. Does your windshield have a tint strip on top?

I agree, just before he sends it out, we need to check his mounting and see if he has a tint strip on the windshield.

Many people, as you've seen, mount their RD right near the dash....a big no no.

No POP or euro, it's a good one!
The repair will probably be $45.00 plus shipping.
    Turn around is 1-2 days.
Another reason to deal with VR directly is original owners is usually free repairs and tune ups.
Like th3 factory freak says you should go into programming and make sure all arrows are up.
