Default How do I get my V1 to function like Escort 8500?

I have a V1 and x50. Love them both in different ways. Anyways, I know the V1 design and functionality is military-grade treating all detections as hostile/life threatning.

In reality, all I need is auto-mute. On the X50, after a few seconds of alert, regardless of band, the audio goes into auto-mute. This is more passenger-friendly, plus I don't have to physically push the mute button.

Since the V1 has two volume controls, you would think this would be possible. However, a V1 technician said no. Is this true???

That is the one disadvantage of Valentine no automute.
Mike Valentine does not beleive in auto muting.

Is it simply because it's patented?

no, it's because he believes that all alerts are important and deserve attention until you decide to mute them.

mike only does k band auto muting on the v1!

factory its 10 seconds before muting.......... if you select b.c.d in the re program section and point the arrows all down for b.c.d then you will only have 3 seconds alert before muting!

That is true. The V1 can be program to automute but not like the 8500. But why did VR mute it during the initial alert and unmute it later? The 8500 alerts you for a few seconds and then auto mutes to a factory preset level which i really like and there is no need to push a button. Although with the remote display, the reach is much better but wished it had the option of automuting like the 8500. I just don't get the notion of why the first alerts are muted and unmute later in any of the programing methods after the fact a radar source is triggered. On top of that, what really is the purpose of muting the audible alert after an audible sound is triggered? It is to cancel annoying audible sound specially with LEO behind you with constant on mode - our local PD does it most of the time. Common sense just tells me it is better to automute after you know a radar source is triggered not before or during the initial source is triggered. IMO, this is one of the down side of the V1.

No I think its patented, V1 can't touch it.

Just the same way the "Arrows" are patented by V1.

You can't have the best of both worlds... and people say competition is good...
