Default My V1 J'd out a speed sign the other day

I always receive a very strong Ka band alert from one of those "your speed is..." trailers that is on my commute, The V1 does an exceptional job of alerting to it with a weak alert at first that builds as I get closer to the sign. However, about two days ago I drove by the sign and the V1 was alerting and all of the sudden J'd it out. I'm 99% sure it was alerting to the sign and not some other source. Any explanation for this?

maybe the signal did something screwy that a normal police radar gun would not. Who knows how far off it drifted, I don't think those sighs have to be certified at all so that could lead it to believe it was junk.

or perhaps there was another detector nearby while you approached the sign and it affected the way it interpereted it? Scary...but at least it wasnt a LEO.

    +1

OP: We need to know how many boggies you usually see at this location and how many you saw that particular time....

Perhaps some Cobra user was cruising by........

Only one bogey ever at this location. In thinking back, I wasn't looking at the display at the time of J alert (glanced over just prior to and it was at 1 bogey) but I didn't hear the bogey lock tone either.

Another remote possibility, sometimes they shut off the "sign" (cough cough....radar) for maintenance, was the sign working that day?

If it wasn't, then if it's off and a Cobra user drives by....

I don't know if the sign was still displaying speeds if that's what you mean. I don't really pay attention to it anymore. The duration of the alert and the ramp up would lead me to believe it was the sign that was emitting Ka and not another source.

Stranger still, I drove by the sign this afternoon. The V1 was tracking the sign for the longest time when all of the sudden I got 2 bogeys (total of 3 now) that were J'd out almost immediately after appearing, but the V1 was still alerting to the sign and continued to alert to it.

Also, I didn't mention this earlier but this particular sign has been there for months. It's insane because they usually rotate these signs every once in awhile around here. I so want them to move it somewhere else because the alerts are really annoying, but no dice.

My guess: the sign is f'ed up somehow and is no longer transmitting clear and consistant Ka.

Its probably out of tune (the sign). I think that happened with a local speed sign on the highway here. It was around a bend, and my 9500i would not detect it until I was around the corner and had direct sight of the sign...at which point it went full alert.

So it was like nothing as I rounded this gradual bend, then BOOM I was in view of sign right in front of me, and the alert went to FULL all at once. I chalk it up to the sign being old and out of tune...but thats just a dummies guess. Maybe there was more going on there that I was unaware of....but it did like that EVERY TIME I approached it.

I honestly don't mean this to sound bad, but do you think that could have just been the lack of great off-axis detection from your 9500i?

Did you drive by this sign with your V1?

I had a similar experience that you describe, but with an actual LEO and an Escort detector. I slowed down in time, but damn....
