Maybe some of you tech types can answer this:
A few months ago I was stopped for speeding in Oklahoma. I just got a warning...but my V1 (V1.8—POP2 with Euro Mode) never alerted. Up to that point it was working fine. And even after that encounter it saved me numerous times. I called Valentine and they said they would gladly check it out but that the unit was probably fine.
Yesterday I was coming home from Colorado east on I-40. I was just inside the Oklahoma line and my wife nudged me to slow down. So I set the cruise on 76 mph (posted 70). A few miles later I came around a curve and there was a trooper facing forward (same direction as I) in the median. I didn;t think much about it because I ws only going 6 over and my V1 never alerted. Within a few minutes he had pulled me over.
He motioned for me to come back to his unit. When I approached he never asked for my insurance or registration just my license. He asked if I knew how fast I was going and I replied yes I had my cruise set on 76. He pointed at the display on his Stalker DSR and said he clocked me at 86 mph.
First...why did it not alert?
Second ...why was his display indicating 86 when I was driving 76? SWMBO is not only puzzled ...she's pissed. She knew exactly how fast I was going because she was watching my speedo. I've since checked my speedometer and it is accurate.
Did he clock me with POP? Is that why the V1 never alerted? Or did he have some one elses speed locked into his display and just used it on me???
In either case wouldn't that be illegal or at least unethical? Surely an LEO would NEVER do something underhanded like that just to issue a citation...would he?
Thanks for any in sight fellas.
