Default Am I getting normal V1 performance???

I am currently on a business trip in Harrisburg, PA... soon travleing to Beaver Falls, PA and I have just learned about the annoyinig and redundant K-Band drones that they have. I saw this as a perfect opp to test the disance of detection on my V1. I currently am driving a Ford Windstar '02 (company truck) and have the V1 mounted high, below the blue strip. I usually started getting constant detection about a mile away, sometimes less, sometimes more depending on the hills. If I was at the bottom of a hill and comming up it would be about a mile or a little less. If I was at the top of a hill over looking, it would be a little over a mile. Are these normal detection ranges? I feel like this isn't so good. Please help me out here.

That's very good range. Just today I clocked the mileage against a K-band speed sign and it was less than 1/4 mile over a hill. The terrain was so bad that I actually got better range coming up behind the thing. Even at 1/4 mile I had more than enough time to shed a few MPH, thinking it was an actual speed trap.

as mike has said not all radar encounters are the same.

lots of different factors to take into account... like if the radar is a low powered one, and if there is more traffic in the way of radar waves, which give you decreased detection!

Yeah, I just look at the tests Radar Roy has done and I have never had results like that and I was afraid something was wrong... also... is there a special alert for POP? I was just wondering.

Hills, curves, buildings, trees, weather conditions (rain etc). can all affect radar reception range. Not to mention the type and band of radar gun, and which direction the gun is pointed/angle of you/your RD to the gun's beam.

On a flat, straight stretch of road, with a radar gun pointed straight at you, you can get 3 or more miles of detection range with a V1. In reality, this is a rare circumstance. Most roads aren't straight or totally flat, and most cops don't run radar in continuous mode when they are on straight, flat stretches of road.

V1 doesn't have a special alert for POP. It just sounds a regular K or Ka alert.

I've heard that it is important to take down your rd because of sun exposure, is this true?

If you dont take it down its gonna heat up a lot and its not really good on electronics... I take mine down every time and put it where theres no sun.

So, you could say that you put your RD where the sun don't shine?

Sorry. I've never been one to pass over a bad joke.

Sun and heat aren't very good for electronics, including RDs. Also, leaving it up is an invitation for getting your car broken in to.
