was on a recent road trip to vegas with the wifes car, so as most of you know it doesn't have half the stuff my truck has.
anyway, about a week before that we also did a road trip to Cali with it, using a very good detector with excellent performance that she uses daily, but after being used to running my system with front and rear units, i am spoiled in knowing exactly what is coming from where and a few times we didn't see anything so it made me wonder where it came from.
I decided to do a quick hardwire for the V1 so i could run it high with the concealed display.
had some great alerts going, including picking up a Sheriff about a mile in front of me going the same direction tagging cars with I/O.
It was a white blazer, and as i slowly got closer i had her take the binoculars to confirm what it was, so i didn't get hit with rear radar as i approached. anyway slowed and trailed a bit and they actually turned around and got someone with I/O.
Approaching up towards the Hoover Dam we picked up another Sheriff running Ka, as we passed it was obvious he was running a rear antenna, getting people coming up on him.
V1 did great going up.
Coming back here's the classic moment.
Just got out of the Dam, and was passing the checkpoint for cars going north into it, when i picked up some K band about a mile or so ahead. it was from a known speed sign. during this i got an occasional 2nd bogey alert, that i thought may be some ghosting due to the hills and curves.
anyway, as we approach the sign it is full blast with one, flickered to 2 then back to 1.
as we pass, the signal starts to drop a bit and goes to the back arrow, but the front arrow stays lit and is flashing. not even a 1/4 mile ahead from around a corner comes a patrol car with K band on.
with the other unit i would have probably picked up the pace already thinking it was just the remainder of the speed sign, instead of a new threat ahead of me coming around a corner.
Gotta love the arrows.
Now i ask that all the zombies from all camps don't come in a pollute this thread.
for those who may not know, on my truck i used to run the v1, but i currently run an STI-r up front, with an SR7 in the rear. the only reason i don't run an STI-r in the rear as well, is that it is actually too good of a performer and i don't need that long of range for the rear antenna. this gives me added things that a single V1 doesn't, and i can judge distances and location without getting any ghosting that can occasionally happen with the V1. So i run and use Bel and escort stuff as well.
On my bike I run the V1 and it works great.
In fact i own and have run pretty much every high end unit out there, plus some middle road units as well.
Anyway, thought i'd share the fact that those moments can exist where knowing where it is coming from can be of great help.
