    Default Is your POP working?

First, off topic, this forum is great. Yes I've searched and read.

However, I'm currently using a V1.8 without the POP firmware. The problem is: the detector is as quiet as a mouse past NJ State Troopers. It used to work like a charm past PA State Police but now it seems as though they may have switched to POP as well. Basically, the detector is useless to me now except for NJ local pd's.

So, to those of you using a V1 with POP, is it working? Are you getting signals from the POP? Is it worth sending in for the upgrade?

Unfortunately, regardless of what everybody says about them switching off POP to write citations, I've learned first hand that they'll write them just as easily without.

Welcome to the forum! It's working as far as I know. I've only had one encounter that I suspect was POP and I picked up every burst (whatever it really was) at roughly 3/4 of a mile. I was getting an instant alert every 3-5 seconds. The newest version V1 has been tested successfully against 67ms POP but nothing can pick up the 16ms (MPH Z-series) consistently. Hopefully they will take care of that before too long.

AFAIK PA stateys don't have POP yet. NJ is rumored to have gotten some BEE IIIs but I don't know if they actually have them or are using them yet. If you drive in NJ, CT or NY it's worthwhile to get the POP upgrade.

What bands are you seeing alerts on? NJSP uses X band heavily. They are also using laser more. That could explain your lack of alerts as well.

Lastly, your V1 could have drifted out of tune. Do you get K alerts from any LEO?

I will get K alerts from local LEO in NJ and I hear them from a mile away, literally. I still have X enabled as I don't have enough junk around me for it to become annoying.

I used to never get any alerts from MD Statey's or NJ. It was the first time I had driven in PA this past weekend and I passed 2 without any signal. Its erie to pass MD, NJ, and now PA State Police without so much as a beep from the detector. Whats worse is receiving a ticket from NJ State Police on a quiet detector with that "Radar" checkbox checked as the form of capture.

Will they also "tune" everything up with the upgrade? I figure it can't hurt no matter what, I just want to make sure its worth the $80.

I would imagine that they would check the tune for you if you decide to upgrade. Just stick a note to your detector asking them to do it to be sure. They will often perform that service for free if you are having problems and send it in.

They tuned mine up free of charge. Or at least I hope they did. It's picking up the usual falses but I haven't seen any LEOs with radar in over a week now. Is it "National Don't Use Radar Week" or something?

Your X band may be dead if you are not picking up NJ State Police like you used to. My X band was dead and they fixed it N/C along with the POP2 upgrade.

I doubt your X-band is dead on your V1. It sounds like you are getting X band falses so X band is clearly working on your detector. NJ state troopers usually keep their radar off until they see a speeding car in radar range, then they will trigger the radar (instant on). I live in NJ and drive past NJ staties all the time with little or even no radar warning. It is rare to encounter a constant on x-band cop in NJ.

If you are getting x band falses from supermarkets, then your radar detector is working fine. NJ state cops are one of the most notorious for selective radar usage, so I wouldn't worry about not recieving an alert from them everytime. Always speed behind a rabit, as they will get clocked first and give you an early warning. Laser guns are getting popluar as well.

hey aaron u sound just like me! check out my first post..
    http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...054&highlight=

i live in NYC and used to drive through NJ and PA all the time. my v1 used to always alert to me to 100% of all leo, and this was last year.

this year things have changed, especially with NJ. you will, but rarely find leo's with constant X or K on. Everything now is instant-on, pop, or laser. I've never been hit with pop so im just speculating about that.

my parents did recently drive to canada with the v1 going thru cny and they said the v1 worked like a charm. so i guess it stills works...but cops and technology are catching up......u need to start thinking, veil and laser jammer like me

Ok, I passed an NJ Trooper on Monday and again today. I've been watching my detector like a hawk all week and I haven't had 1 X-band hit.

I'm 90% sure I lost the X band on my V1. Is that possible? Are there any surefire ways to get an x band hit? Now I'm REALLY thinking about sending it back to Valentine for the tune up, but since I will be without it, do I spring for the $70 upgrade?
