Default New V1 owner, 8500 x50 going back for refund

    So new and hooked already.

I was going to get either a V1 or 9500ix but have no current need for the RLC stuff. If I get something for that it will be the cheetah mirror so updates are free not paying all the time. I don't mind some falses since it lets me know its still working and makes me look at my speed. My window tint seriously effects radar performance so the rear arrows/sensitivity is kinda of a waste. According to all I read here the 8500 x50 is a top choice and gets me $200 closer to a LI dual.
Today (04-12-2009, 11:31 PM) Well a couple of these things just go shot down. My x50 will be going back to Escort this week. After 2 weeks of using it and not being thrilled by the display for visual alerts and a lack of plug in concealed display I ordered a V1 which came on Friday. I drove around Friday night and Saturday and even in big L it was picking up a lot more sources (mostly door openers) than the x50 did for 2 weeks.

I ran them together part of the time on Saturday, yeah I know the crosstalk issue but only way for most "normal" users to compare is using both. I did have them spaced as far apart as possible, in all the places I went sensitivity was much better on the V1.

Trip to my parents house today for Easter. I stopped to buy gas and was on the service road (runs parallel to Expressway, 2 lanes but local speed limits) V1 gives quick Ka alert once, I check speed and slow down to PSL, V1 again quick Ka alert, 30 seconds later V1 and x50 give full Ka and I'm the only target looking right at the LEO as I drive buy and hop on the expressway for the rest of my trip. An hour later I get a c/o K alert ahead from V1 but only 1 strength, builds real slow and almost a full minute later x50 alerts with 3 strength, V1 is at 4. Both build to full alert as I pass the LEO sitting in median, V1 goes from forward arrow to side to back as we pass him. The car that was following/next to me speeds up again just after we pass him. Both RD's start to drop in strength and V1 gives bogey lock tone with a 2, rear arrow on, forward arrow flashing. Just around the corner another LEO, he pulls out and gets behind the car that was driving by me and turns his lights on.

Settles it for me which one I want to keep. Also even though my ceramic tint seriously effected my AM radio and some of my FM the arrows on the V1 seem to be working fine.

Also locally will probably drive my wife crazy because it seems we have more than our allotted share of k band door openers on the main road in town. I got some K alerts from the x50, so I tried expert display and the 2 k sources went up often. With the V1, passing one spot had 7 showing with bogey lock going crazy.

Get some K muting going on as in the sticky above and your wife will be a lot more happier, when she leaves the car you can simply switch to (A) mode if you want to hear every K alert at regular volume.
4, 6, or 8 LED regular volume delay, your choice.
POP V1's tend to ghost K band so that might be some of the multiple bogy's.

You will love it or hate it. I love mine. I also will never sell my X50 Rev 5 Blue. Two different RD and both have pluses.

    X2!

Of course, the S7 (rev 5, older X50's) platform is a different animal than the M4 platform (New X50's).

Every since my 9500ix (M4) came back from repair, it'sensitivity has been greatly improved. (impressive, actually)

But, I still trust my Rev 5 X50, and/or my V1 to pick up around-the-corner ambushes better than my ix.

I liked my X50 but the V1 is better suited to my driving. (Mostly highway)

Get a colored display. I guarantee you'll love your V1 even more!

Most of mine is also highway or rural 2 lane. I noticed a big distance improvement on the couple speed signs we have around by the schools between them. I just did the automute programming from above threads yesterday. Now I just make sure to put it in big L when I get home. Explained to the wife if it does go off to slow down because she always speeds. Problem with her is that she is not very attentive to surroundings and places cops like to hide. Her parents never had a radar detector (but did have many tickets) so she reallyhad no clue. I on the other hand helped my dad install his BEL remote and he had a couple different Bel and Escort products over the years. We took a lot of trips in rural highways and I just learned better on the constant awareness to surroundings.
