It's been a while since I posted.
I bought a V1 3.864 this time last year for my daily commute (103 miles roundtrip). It was fun, and I got some cool saves. I ran into some financial problems in December (credit card debt, i'm a college student) and sold it for some quick cash on Craigslist. Oops.
Well, I'm on my feet now and making decent money (for a student). I should've bought a new detector. I didn't, and last night I got a ticket. My mistake, clearly.
Only thing is, I'm torn between the V1 and the 9500i/ix.
I had the V1 for a long time -- long enough to rack up several saves. Tons of encounters with I/O, Laser, C/O, etc. The V1 has a certain charm to it, and I liked the arrows. The bogey counter was pretty much useless, as it ghosted bad (please, fanboys, spare me the "no it doesn't). I had to turn POP off to keep other detectors from alerting mine, and driving around Athens, Georgia definitely gives a lot of falses, so the TrueLock feature is attractive.
Most of the saves I received gave ample time to slow down, but nothing like some of the videos you see on youtube. Honestly, I really wasn't that impressed with it's real world performance. Not that I was dissatisfied -- but I wasn't as impressed as I thought i'd be after having wanted one for years...
My first (and only other unit) was a Beltronics 935 I think, and I got some GREAT saves from it. This was before I/O was popular, when I was 16 (i'm 22 now).
But, I'm hesitant to buy a Beltronics product just because (for some reason)I feel drawn to the V1.
I definitley need the GPS Lockout, as my V1 was very annoying in this college town. (though I worry about TrueLock and the possible locking out of real threats).
What's the skinny? Wtf should I do? Does Beltronics (or Escort) have a 30-day trial on the 9500i/ix? Is there any way to get a good price?
Btw, I'm not a newb. I'm well informed, know how to use a RD, know they won't save me from laser and need a jammer, etc etc etc, I realize the v1/9500 has about the same detection range etc.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any other USEFUL input or has been in the same situation.
