New V1

I Just purchased the v1 the other day and so far I love it! I went from the escort 8500 x50 blue. The only thing I wish the v1 offered is the spec mode that the 8500 has. Sure its not vital to know the frequency of the radar, but its nice to know and lets me know what LEO's I am detecting. I have a few questions.
Does the v1 false on laser frequently?
I have gotten 2 laser hits on the highway, both times no cops in sight. With the 8500 I never had a fake or real laser alert. I understand the v1 does have far superior laser detection though.
secondly, I live in the Houston area and would like to know what radar and laser guns that most of HPD runs.
almost forgot. First save on the v1 last night on 290! (The arrows came in handy) I love Harris County, most are nice and run around c/o

Hi typesguy,

First, the V1 does have some great laser sensitivity but odds are if you did not see a LEO (COP) then the source might have been a vehicle with adaptive laser cruise control such as an infiniti or other such vehicle. Also, some neon signs will also cause a laser alert on the V1.

Second, for radar and laser used in houston go ahead and check out the local and regional forum on the board for that information it has some really good info in there.

Nice to hear it has already saved you and if you want post your encounter in the Real Experiences forum along with some details such as how fast what band and such.

yes, the v1 does give laser falses from either the sun or the third brake light on some vehicles. check ur owners manual for a complete list. I am also located in the Houston area and HPD uses PLIII lidar gun and primarily Ka 35.5 Kustom signal radar

Spec mode is nice, but if I had to choose between spec mode or arrows, it'd be arrows any day. Personally I like the V1's prominent display of the bogey counter. When I get a radar threat, I'd like to know "(1) where (2) how many (3) how close", and the V1 displays exactly that information on the screen. If there were a way to fit perhaps a breakdown of Ka band into 3 or 4 segments onto the display without sacrificing usability, I'd gladly want it

Laser falses don't happen frequently for me. Of all detectors, the V1 accepts probably teh widest range of pulse frequencies for laser. This definitely plays a rule in its insane laser sensitivity, but yeah, any potentially valid source of pulsing infrared light including some PWM-regulated LED flashlights, center-mount neon brakelights, neon signs, laser adaptive cruise control on Lexus/Infinity, and perhaps even direct strong sun exposure can trip laser alerts.

Personally I've had laser falses be rare and far apart unless I am unlucky enough to be following an offending car.

The best thing for you would be if you know any people in the US to have them buy it for you and have them ship it to you.
Other wise you will have to pay the outrageous prices on ebay or any site on the internet that charges around $100 on top just to export it.

O ok. Thanks. I have noticed increased LEO's shooting laser along I-10 from Mason all the way past I-45. There is one HPD unit shooting laser in a new Dodge Ram, as well as the new white chargers. HOV is where they seem to hangout...
