Default how come the valentine 1 is no working properly in canada

hi guys, here comes another fresh man.
i bought a brand new valentine 1 just a few days ago and i am in BC canada, however, i doubt that the detector is not working properly since it does not give me any warning on oncoming cops. there were lots of times i saw the cops and it does not give me any sound at all!!!at first i thought it was just the radar that is turned off on that car, but after a while, i doubted.
is there any function need to be initialized in order to work properly in canada? i read thru the manual several times and i could not find the solution either on the manual or online, so ,plz help me out!!
    thank

Radar in Canada and the US is the same. Dont you have any urban areas with automatic door openers to test the unit. My local police rarely have radar going so thats not a good indicator.

Ditto for me. Even if an officer is in a vehicle equipped with radar (not all are) they almost always run around with it on standby. If they see someone coming at them at a sufficient speed they can flip the switch, get a reading, and switch it off. This is a prime example of why you CAN NOT under any circumstances rely 100% on a radar detector. You need to be paying attention so as not to be taken by surprise, (though we should all be paying full attention to our surroundings at any speed). The faster you go, the easier it is for them to get the jump on you since the road is coming at you much faster. That's why sound judgement is the name of the game in all circumstances.

    Welcome to the board!

    It's a Radar Detector......NOT a Cop Detector

well.i guess you guys are right. but then what make this valentine 1 differs from other brand like whilster and excort. the unit works perfectly detecting auto doors and other stuff..
anyway, do you guys have any idea about when the cop trigger you, how much time do i have to slow down to get away from the ticket?
thx so much for your time

The difference is that you can pick up those instant-on hits from farther away when someone else is targeted. What you're paying for is that range vs. a cheaper, less sensitive unit which can't pick anything up until it's aimed directly at you. The idea is that you should never speed unless you have someone well in front of you going as fast or faster (a "rabbit"). They get clocked, you know about it and slow down. Whether that person gets pulled or not you get to cruise on through at the limit. That's really the only way to win the game against modern radar usage. It doesn't work against laser but that's a completely different animal.

what do you mean by that, i dont really know the difference between pop and instant on, do you mean if someone else ahead of me is targeted, then i can receive the signal far away so that i know there is hazard ahead? well,i might think that is false warning.

anyway, i will try to live with the nature of detector and radar gun.

thx for the help, hope i wont get a ticket again, which will be the 5th in 3years, already suspend my license for 2years..

what he means is that your detector will pick up fine radar scatter better than cheaper detectors........

the result is better detection on fast pulsed instant on and pop...

itstant on is a pulsed radar, so the radar is only on when he pulls the trigger, with instant on you will only detect it when he fires it...

so as cars in front are being hit you will get weak k or ka band, and then will keep coming and going and it may buld up in signal strength, until you get hit and then it will go full alert, it should tell you more about this in the v1 manual........

pop is the same except that its pulse is faster.. and is harder to detect

you should visit the v1 site and check the programing on your v1 to see if any bands are turned off! may the reason for the non detection!

if you want it as it come from the factory all arrows should point up!

there is also a vast range of info on radar and laser

    i hope this is helpful..

actually i read the manual for 3 times before i go on the road..
just get little bit dispointed that it sometimes does not give me any warning on oncoming cops. well, i guess that is the way life is and i have to live with it.
thanks a lot guys, i really appreciate your help
