Well, he dared me to post the following comments which I made over on Escort's new forum:
Anyway, thats the way I see it. While I enjoyed testing a V1, the V1 is just not my cup of tea for my driving conditions. The V1 is nice, but its excessive falsing while driving around town was unbearable. Besides, I found that the V1 had no really significant performance edge on either K or Ka bands compared to my STi. I have already done comparison testing of my 9500i and STi and found that both of these models perform very similarly as well, the 9500i having a very slight edge in on-axis radar sensitivity and the STi having a slight edge in off-axis radar sensitivity. So, in my opinion, Escort's and Beltronics' top of the line windshield mount radar detector models perform very similarly to the V1 yet without the V1's incessant falsing in urban areas or the V1's occasional yet extremely nerve rattling false alerts from other radar detectors which then results in the V1's infamous "J" after a second or two of what appeared to be an instant-on radar alert. The V1 produces false alerts for other nearby cheap radar detectors far more frequently compared to virtually all Beltronics and Escort radar detector models. So, while the V1 may hold an edge in terms of raw sensitivity, its negative attributes put it further down the list of radar detectors which I prefer to use.
