    Default V1 for dirt cheap

So my friend needs the cash and is telling me that it's mine for 220. It's 1.5 years old and he said he updated it about 6 months ago (not sure what that means..)

The thing is i JUST bought an escort passport 8500 like literally a week ago. What do you guys think? I know I could make some money by selling the V1 but it really is the best radar according to everyone I've talked to.

any advice? The escort passport just got returned because it wasn't working right. they're sending a brand new one to me in the next few days.

Get it, use it for a bit, if you like it, keep it and sell the 8500. If not, keep the 8500 and sell the V1 (you'll probably make a profit on it). Or keep both, it never hurts to have an extra detector kicking around as a backup or to put in a 2nd car.

Other than the arrows (which I LOVE), how much better would you guys say the V1 is over the 8500? I imagine I already know the answer, but i'd like to hear it from someone that has used both...

This is an RX75 and a V1 against constant on radar.

My 75 has the M4 antenna which is the same as the 8500X50. I have an 8500 in my wifes car and this is about how it does against the V1.

V1 is a noisey sucker though...

As long as you don't mind the constant beeps the V1 will be okay. I also have an older 8500 and recently picked up a V1. Even with the K filtering enabled it still falses alot. On my way to a softball game last night it was going off constantly. This was mostly highway and rural back roads and not a single LEO was spotted. Coming to a 4 way stop I suddenly got a strong Ka alert from straight ahead. I would normally turn right to go home but was curious so I went straight (a road that ultimately leads into a state park). Again no LEO anywhere to be found.

The arrows are nice but IMHO the rest of the display sucks. I'm used to being able to see a graphical output of the band type and/or frequency. With the V1 all you have is the type of beep and a very small led that is almost impossible to see when driving. I know people love this detector but in the few weeks I've had it I haven't been that impressed. I plan to to replace it with either a 9500ix or 9500ci.

I have a Rev 5 8500 x50 and it is a very nice detector, but I think a V1 for that kind of money is a steal and a better detector. I think my x50 falses about a much as the V1 (especially if you use the K band automute), I don't think there is reason to use a Escort product over a V1 until you get to the 9500 series detectors.

Yea, my daughter turned me on to them!

Funny thing, she just got back from France and took pictures of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart because it was in the film C'était un rendez-vous. She said, "That's the church at the end!"

She knew about it because it was in a Postal Service video, I knew about it because of the Alex Roy book.

    Yea, I gotta kewl kid...
