Default Have and X50 and thinking of getting a V1

Ive had my X50 for over 3 yrs and love it, but I'll be doing a ton of highway driving and have heard that although it falses a lot more in the city, its the best on the highway..

So my question is is it worth it, any X50 owners that switched to V1 can tell me about highway comparison?

this test was done by the GOL which are members on this forum...its no bs like most tests out there

Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - August 2007

i personally have never owned an x50 but have a bel STi...even tho the sensitivity of the 2 are the same and more sensitive than the x50 the v1 is a lot better for me imo because of the arrows, bogey counter, and perfect ramp up

Before I bought my V1 I was going to get the X50. I am sooo glad I bought the V1. I love it. On the highway it is awsome. I really appreciate the I/O warnings I get with it. Just this last weekend on a mountain road I had a 1 mile around the curve pick up. I was a 1/2+ mile from a sharp left curve when I received my 1st alert. I'm thinking it must have picked up the bounce off of a car that was close to the corner when I received the alert. Just as I reached the curve the LEO came around it.

I just ordered the 9500ix, I noodled whether to get the V1, but I'm hooked on the spec display of escort. I don't do a lot of long highway trips either though. If the V1 could tell me the bogie freq, then I may have went with it.

I have both, actually 2 X50, one in my truck and one in the wifes. I am an X50 lover and think it is one of the best ever made for the money. I did buy the V1 about a year ago and am becoming a Zombie. If you travel the open road, not a city RD, you will love it. I do run them both at times, different thread. I love the arrows, ramp up and bogey counter and will keep it until there is something I think is better. BUT I live in SW Oklahoma where CB and V1 were made for.

I also had my X50 for 3 years and it was a good detector. I recently purchased a V1 and its now its my primary detector. Here is my feedback between the two:

-V1 Arrows---like them a lot. Helps with situational awareness, I know where to look and if the threat is a concern faster than my Escort

-Escort Spec display---Liked it. It helped distinguish real alerts vs pharmacy doors. Also nice to know the different Ka bands being used in the area

-V1 Ka sensitivity. Its a good bit better than the X50. The rearward antenna is pretty good too.

-V1 Ramp-Very linear, alerts when radar is present, and ramps down fast when the radar is off. THe Escort tends to keep alerting for a few seconds.

-V1 Response to radar-Great on short bursts (aka quick triggering). I always felt the Escort processed the signal longer before alerting.

-X50 quieter in the city. For the V1 I just put on the automute settings. But the V1 is really not to bad, but then again I'm used to RD chatter. Some other people may not be used to all the beeps.

-V1 off axis. I feel more likely that I would get a highway alert especially on a road that is not straight as an arrow.

So on the highway, I feel pretty confient that the V1 is better. In the city, your call based on the environment and your tolerence for false alerts.

I don't want to be perceived as a Belscort basher. I actually would love to get the 9500CI or STI-R to run with the V1. However I don't want the ZR4 jammers, I'm a little dubious of the GPS lockouts and quick trigger alert performance. Plus the cost benefit analysis lead me to make the V1 decision (for now).

You may also want to consider a CB is you are doing a lot of highway driving. Also a good laser jammer would be a good investment---even for highway driving.

Get the V1. I don't and won't ever fully trust my radar detector because even if I have a laser jammer, there is still instant on radar. Nothing can defeat instant on. BUT, if I would put my (half) trust in any radar detector, it would be the V1. Especially if it were used mostly on the highway. When I travel to school in the mornings on the interstate, I feel pretty confident about my advance warnings from my V1.

Laser can be beaten with a jammer but always keep in mind, NOTHING can beat I/O. The only thing that can assist in an I/O encounter is advance warning, which the V1 will give you plenty of.

    Good luck and drive safe.

I have an X50,RX65 and V1. I live in upstate New York. They all work about the same. I do like the arrows. But they are not right all the time. Its loud, to bright at night. and goes off all the time with other detectors. I like my RX65 works great. Just not loud enough.(I got the speaker works great!) like the auto mute and spec. display. MY X50 works great. I think it's best and easiest to use.ramp up on mine is good to. I/O and off axis is better on my V1. Also the V1 gets really hot. Either one you cant go wrong. If you want class V1 is the way to go. Just my 2cents.

I went from X50 to V1 and haven't looked back. 90% of my driving is highway so it suits me.

Be warned, it gets about usless in the city unless you really pay attention.
