I received my V1 two days ago. Not that I am annoyed by the false alarms, I just want to lessen these not wanted alerts.
Now I just have a couple of questions:
1. What is the difference for the settings E and F (four & six Led's)? Are these used simultaneously in the big and small L mode? How does the 30 second delay apply to these settings?
2. I often travel from the SF Bay Area to L.a., and Sacramento. For similar drivers here with a similar route, is it really safe to turn off X Band and Pop mode?
3. I want to ask people over here who have both the 9500ix and V1 and their experiences. Is the auto-lockout really worth it? There may some bugs right now but an updated firmware will easily fix this, if they come out with one. I was really thinking of returning my V1 and purchasing the escort but I think I cannot live without the arrows. Don't get me wrong, I love my V1 but I just want to have something that will be worth the investment, down the road. Will V1 come out with the similar features as the 9500 in the near future?
I will test out the automute settings I programmed today, and based on your insights, I may or may not swap it for an Escort.
Maybe, I'm one of the guys who has the mentality, "The grass is greener on other side". I have the tendency of returning things thinking that I may have purchased a better one at same or slightly higher price.

It's just another STOP MUTING condition. You set a STOP MUTING condition when the V1 has been sniffing something for <= 30 seconds...that is just time based. But MV wanted to give a strength related stop condition as well, so he put in the LED option, which will alert at full volume if met.
They are OR'd together. If either are met, it will alert at full volume.
Yes, any, and all, muting you program is only activated during l and L.

Thank you for the explanation. The 4/6 Led is still unclear though. How does the two work if both arrows or one arrow is pointed down? So at factory with both arrows up, does it unmute at 4 or 6 led's? If both arrows are down, does it unmute at 4 or 6 led's?

Re: So I programmed my K automute via sticky thread
K-band auto-muting* (this has nothing to do with the mute button)
logic Mode(small L) - weak signals are reported at the volume set by the Volume Lever
Advanced Logic Mode (Big L) - weak signals are not reported until intensity or time thresholds are met, then reported at Full Volume (there are no auto-mute reports at the muted volume)
the 4 LED threshold is about the 'onset signal level' (refered to as Instant-On). If the initial strength is over 4, there is no muting [E set to arrow UP]
Weak signals increasing in strength unMute at 6 LEDs [F set to arrow UP] or the TIME threshold (set by b-C-d)
Rear K-band muting [G set to Arrow Down] - ALL alerts reported at muted Volume (set by Volume Lever). Rear alerts never reach Full Volume (Knob)
* these alert responses assume Mute Button Silence [8 set to Arrow Down] has not been involked
Printer Friendly reference sheet (keep one in your car)

Well I bought a V1 about 3 months ago and took it to a 2000 mile trip to L.A. and it was amazing. I didn't really appreciate the arrows until after I returned it and bought my friend's 9500ix for a HUGE discount (almost half the retail). I've since then taken another 2000 mile trip to L.A. and that's when I got disappointed. It sucked not knowing where the radar is coming from especially when you get an alert driving at night in the middle of the Colorado mountains.
Different story though when you get in the city, that's when I appreciated the 9500ix's lockout feature. The V1 went crazy while the ix was quiet. But then again, I almost never did speed in the city.
So basically just like everyone has said about these two detectors:
City - 9500ix
Highway - V1
I hope you enjoy yours. I can't wait to get another one.

Go Pacquiao! "“I was just doing my job, nothing personal” =)
Thanks for your unbiased input. That helps a lot. So when you are driving on the freeway with a 9500ix, you wouldn't know if the LEO is at the opposite lane or you passed it already?
Re: So I programmed my K automute via sticky thread
Exactly. I would get Ka or K alerts once in awhile and I wouldn't know if it's an I/O alert in front or if it's coming up from the rear. It sucks cause I ended up slowing down until I saw a cop or something that may have caused it, most of the time I never do. Twice I got a full Ka alert in the middle of Utah and found nothing! I looked for oncoming cars, cars in front or cars behind me (I was the only car on I-70 at the time). I thought I was being tracked by a UFO or something
One of the biggest complaints I've had with the V1 over the years is the inability to have K-band muted for more than 30 seconds. Personally, I don't want to hear K at full volume unless it is above 4(or 6) LED's REGARDLESS of how long it's been alerting. When I sit waiting at a traffic light and a nearby pharmacy's doors have my V1 steady at 3 LED's, I really don't want to have to hit mute after 30 seconds.(kinda defeats the purpose)
This has always confused me why VR won't add this option. I've asked VR(Pete) several times over the years to add this, but no joy.
PLEASE VALENTINE RESEARCH, CONSIDER ADDING AN OPTION FOR 'NO TIME LIMIT" MUTING OF K-BAND UNTIL A CERTAIN THRESHOLD IS MET (4 OR 6 LED'S; USER'S CHOICE)
I know it's a dangerous option, but as an experienced user, I can handle it.

Rant over.
I agree, and being in NJ I'll add something else: Please, VR, add X band automuting similar to K band automuting.
I did email them suggesting to impliment an X band automuting. I can guess that since it'll be for such a small percentage of users they don't want to do it.
