Default would like to get a v1 in the future

i'm new to the world of the v1 and am interested in getting one sometime in the (near) future. just wondering what you guys think on a few issues....

    1) would it be safe to get one ebay as long as i'm sure what version it is and that it still works well? like this one for example --> Link removed - Sethy
    2) how long do you think it'll be till they fix all the current problems and come out with a new version? should i wait for that and buy a new one?
    3) if i do get a used one, what version is a good one to get? i've heard alot of people love the 1.7 and some love the 1.8 w/no POP and yet some love the new 1.8 with pop2... i dont think pop is used in my area but i'm not sure. i've heard reports of wisconsin cops using it in construction zones, but idk if thats around me. i think i'd like one with pop, for road trips and whatnot, and for if my area decides to get pop. ones with pop false more i hear
    4) i've heard that the upgrades and whatnot arent available to the 2nd owner, is this true?
    5) are the older (1.7) ones are able to detect all the laser guns? (even LA stealth mode) i'd assume so, considering its the mighty v1

just curious as to what all of your opinions are on this. i'll post more questions if i can think of any. thanks alot in advance!

Well, I wouldnt but a v1 detector on ebay. They usually sell for around 100-110% of the retail price.

I would wait on teh v1. Wait until they fix the J bug before you buy the v1. With POP growing, you really dont want to turn off the J feature (which is also connected to POP) on the V1.

I would wait a little bit longer until valentine releases a newer version.

sorry about the link. i've seen people link to ebay like that before, so i thought i'd use it for an example. wont happen again

anyway, thanks for the input, my guess is that alot of people are going to say that . is the J function like city mode on other detectors in the way that it filters some stuff out?

No swet about the link dont worry about it, but on the topic the J feature is really cool!

Other detectors will detect detectors as KA, because crappy detectors emit frequencies that are nearly identical to KA. V1 will alert to the KA, but scan it to see whether it is a real KA threat, or a detecotr. if it is detected as a detector it will J it out so you can disreguard it and go on your way.

However it currently will J out real KA cop threats. You can turn teh J feature off by turning off POP, but it is a growing threat.

that is awesome, i cant wait for the problems to be fixed! is there anything on it that is like a city mode? or should i just turn the volume down more . i always use my v995 on highway mode with automute off when i'm alone but if i've got a friend along, the constant x and k alerts get anoyng to them real quickly. then i turn on city with low x, automute on and watch more closely for cops and slow down a bit

Sethy I think you are mistaken in that "J" in programming does turn off POP but there is no way to turn off the "J"unk alert feature.
Someone on the board experimented with this and found out.

I for one have bought a V1 version 1.7 off of ebay and got if for under $200.
Even if I did do the upgrade to my 1.7 it would only be $189 which would still be a little cheaper than buying a new one.
But for me I will not be updating my 1.7 I like it just the way it is.

Sometimes people can not afford to spend the whole $400 off the bat for a V1 so they buy an older one and use it for a while until they can save their money again for the upgrades.
While this may cost more in the long run, it still gives them great protection now while saving for the upgrade.
Depending on where you live maybe you do not need the POP detection at this time or stealth laser detection is not something to worry about as well.
You take a chance when buying a used detector off of ebay but I have found that if the seller has all the accessories and manual with the detector they are selling you can bet they have taken good care of the unit.
Remember they spent good money on it when it was new so they know that they better take good care of it hahahahahaa

I am always on the look out for a good used V1 on Ebay and will not pass the chance up if I come accross one.
A used V1 version 1.7 is still better than most new units today.

is there a version that works ok with pop and doesnt have many problems? or are all the ones after the 1.8 w/pop problematic? i could always turn the feature off too...

how are the 1.8 w/no POP? i think i found a good one on ebay (waiting on exact serial #) and am considering it. i've seen alot of people that have the 1.8 w/o pop

If I needed a replacement that is what I would do.
A 1.7 and a 1.8 without POP does not have the ghost K band bogy's.
Turning POP off does not solve the K band ghosting.
Need to keep that additional bogy lock tone and counter accurate and useful.
