Default Looking for some inside help, anyone know what these are?

I just received an original 1992 V1 I bought off fleabay. I know it has no real value as a countermeasure, I can still get an upgrade for it, but have a few questions.

The unit will not pick up K band, I went for a drive past my local CVS and it would not alert at all. One thing I noticed though, was there was something loose rattling around inside it.

Obviously, I had to take it apart and see what it was. I found a little white round piece of plastic rolling around in the case.....odd I thought. I was more surprised to find that did not cure the rattle I was coming from inside the antenna. I found another one of these little white pieces of plastic in there too. Looking at everything, it looks like these plastic pieces were originally attached inside the antenna, just below a pair of screws accessible from the top of the antenna.

    1. So, anyone know where these round plastic pieces came from and what they do? It looks to me like they were attached inside the antenna at the arrow locations.
    2. What are these screws on the top of the antenna housing for? They are directly above where it appears the plastic pieces were attached
    3. There are also several Phillips head screws on the circuit board, they appear to be variable resistors, anyone know what for? Tuning possibly?
    4. Lastly, is it possible to reprogram this unit as with the newer ones, trying to get into programing mode, I get all kinds of light sequences but never the 1, 2, 3, 4, ect.

I attached several pictures so you all can see what I'm talkin' about.

Looks like no reprograming, this was just discussed about 16 threads ago.
    "Older V1.7 question"
Run the serial on the upgrade page it will be over 300 to upgrade.

Actually, the upgrade is $279. Combined with what I paid for the unit, this is still less than a new one! Not sure I'm even going to upgrade it.....it's a neat piece of history!

I know from a manufacturing standpoint, everything has a purpose/function. So what is the function of these round white pieces of plastic, where do they go, and is it possible they are the reason this thing isn't working?

Don't know mine has been taken apart and did not see these.
Providing your unit is not stolen you should have it repaired then.

OP: Read my guide on buying a used V1, we just had another member here who bought on and it was stolen, he's out $300+.

If it's not stolen, put it back together and send it in for an upgrade.

I checked with VR before purchasing the unit and it is not stolen. That is a good guide BTW, essentially followed it to a "T" even before it was written!!

When I purchased this, I knew what I was buying. I was however, hoping that it still detected radar. With enforcement equipment that is around these days, I know this is not a valuable tool for a countermeasure. I was interested in the unit because it is one of the original V1's. According to VR it was sold in 1992 meaning this has to be one of the earliest detectors they produced! That to me, is cool!

I haven't called them yet, but I would be VERY surprised if VR would even repair this unit any longer based on its age/technology......they (VR) may not even have parts for this anymore. 27yrs is a long time to stock parts for something that has long been, dare I say, obsolete.

It's good that you checked it.

You mean, 17 years? I'm sure Mike has some parts on his shelf to fix it.

I bought a used unit once as well, the K-band was dead.

$45 later, K-band was alive again.

Just get it tuned up. Keep it at the same version its at though. Definitely a piece of history.

And remember what Mike V. says...

It's not obsolete! It's just old
