My goal with this project was to eliminate the windshield mount. Sure it was still hidden, but I wanted nothing on the windshield.
I bought this neat little visor attachment on ebay. It has a main pocket for the V1, and a few other mini pockets as well some space for CD's.
The product arrived yesterday and tonight I started customizing it to fit my needs.
First things first, this product isn't perfect, there were a few problems right off the bat:
- The pocket rear gate that closes it blocked the rear radar antenna and the laser sensor.
- When you install the visor mount, the V1 ends up pointing downwards.
- The pocket is slightly too big, so the V1 was moving around.
Job # 1: I placed the V1 in the pocket and then figured out where I need to cut holes for the radar antenna, I ended up cutting a square on the right so that worked out well.
The laser sensor was a bit more difficult, and I ended up cutting a larger portion of the gate, but still left enough to I can close it.
Job # 2: I measured the dimensions of the visor, I had some foam from an old laptop case laying around, so I cut it to fit. A little trimming and it was ready. This foam piece is than placed between the visor and the headliner, so the visor is straight, and so is the V1.
Job # 3: I measured the pocket dimensions and than cut some more foam and placed it in the pocket, so the V1 is nice and snug and not moving.
* The front of the pocket has a clear (see through) vinyl piece.
I placed this above the driver seat, as opposed to the passenger seat where the the original V1 mount was located.
I moved my cable back a little bit (I have a concealed display already wired)
Test # 1: power on, grab the laser tester. Full laser alert on front and rear. So far so good.
Test # 2: comming up in a few days to see if the vinyl piece is affecting radio waves reception.
I can assure it looks much cleaner in person.
The windshield is now free and clear.
Let me know what you think.
