Default Weird Encounter/V1 broken on Ka?

So I was coming home yesterday from Huntsville to Birmingham on I-65 and was highly suggesting (tailgating) that a Honda CRV move out of the left lane to the right. Traffic was fairly heavy with a line of cars behind me waiting to get past the CRV. While I was behind him I get a nearly full blast of Ka, bogey counter of 2 and a rear arrow. The alert lasts maybe 2 seconds. Goes away and silence.

About 7 seconds later I see an unmarked Chevy Tahoe AHEAD of me on the right shoulder with his built in flashers going on his brake lights. Couldn't tell if he was measuring traffic or had just finished with a customer. Probably just over a 1/4 mile from the alert to his position.

So, do you guys think he was the source of the ka alert? If so, why would the V1 indicate a rear arrow and a bogey count of 2? Deflection off the traffic behind me back into my car? I have not had any LEO Ka detection in more than 3 weeks now and starting to fear something is wrong. K detection is fine as I nailed an I/O LEO last night.

BTW, I have POP off and my V1 isn't even a year old yet. 3.872

Where's the V1 mounted? Any tint?
    How's it perform otherwise?

I don't expect the LEO that was 1/4 mile ahead of you to make an alert on the rear arrow.

The V1 is mounted high, center of the windshield, just to the left of the rear view mirror. There is no tint strip across the top of the windshield. I have those black dots but the V1 is mounted to the side of those.

Other than Ka, performance is good. I have X turned off, so the only gauge I have is K band, which seems fine. All known falses alert at or near the same spots they always do, and LEO K band is strong.

Ka just has not seemed right since I was going back and forth from POP on/off. Am I just being paranoid or do you think a call to VR should be made?

I think you're completely wrong, Crisp. I think your V1 is perfectly fine. In fact, it's sooooo good that it warned you that the cop was using rear-facing radar. =P You've got to learn to conversate with your V1.

All joking aside, I also doubt that the LEO ahead gave you that alert. It's obvious by the fact that you told us you were tailgating that you thought maybe the car, so close in front of you, blocked the waves from reaching your front antenna. Exceptionally unlikely. Radar waves travel through glass, plastic, and most rubber compounds. You would've received the signal right through him.

What's more likely is that a cop on an overpass or on-ramp was shooting cars in the ass and the cop YOU saw was a chaser that just finished with a write-up.

If the front of the V1 had a horn-full-o-CRV, the strongest signal the V1 got might have entered through the rear horn.

(Bounced off the car behind you and into the V1...from the back.)

Rob I like the idea and suggestion, but there were no overpasses or on-ramps around. I kinda agree with Z1, although I have been behind trucks and other vehicles and still received K alerts. Just worried that the V1 is dead on the front antenna on Ka.

I know of two Ka drones that I am going to try out. They are far away but worth the drive considering I have two huge road trips coming up.

Let us know how it is.

Last year I sent my 3.863 in to VR because I thought I was getting 'late' Ka alerts. VR checked it out and said it was fine, maybe I was getting I/O'd (I know that wasn't the case.) Ka is a funny animal. It'll play tricks on you. There've been a few times I've seen a source of full blast Ka go from front to back and I wasn't able to spot the LEO. It's wacky.

Will do. Thanks. This might all be a function of not having any encounters with C/O Ka in almost a month. Just a bunch of I/O lately.

    Update:

Well I think all is ok with the V1. I went out to the Birmingham airport at lunch today to test my Ka detection. They have 3 Ka speed signs as you pull up to the terminal. The only issue with them is that they are around a 45 degree bend in the road, so you can't get detection straight on. Still, I did three passes and on average got the first alert 0.3 miles from the sign. Pretty decent off axis. I actually didn't realize there were more than one of these drones until the arrows were pointing front and rear and I found the other one.

If they were pointing parallel with the road, I suspect the warning would be more than sufficient. Makes me feel a little better as I am traveling this weekend to see the Auburn game. Always some LEO action on that stretch. Guess I have been paranoid due to a lack of any action the last several weeks.
