Well , after using the 1.7 I learned to love the Radar Locator and it was great! untill my arrows decided to die on me .
SO I upgraded recently and this are my views:
The trip was from Miami to Orlando .
On the way there I turned X off (it's not used in Florida) and POP off
My first impressions were that the 1.7 actually had better detection on off axis and when the radar was pointing away from the V1 , in otherwords if the cop was aiming his radar in the direction you were traveling in , the 1.7 seemed better at catching those , however when the radar was pointed at me it did seem to have great range.
On the way north I took the turnpike express way.
False alerts were almost non existant , even on areas with heavy urbanisation , not really any saves but did pick up a few LEOs and State troopers traveling up and down the road.
Later when we decided to go to Ocala for tubing on a lazy river we did get two confirmed K band saves from cops that were traveling the opposite direction , however on two other times the V1 only went off when the cops were almost visible or fully visible when the radar was pointing away from us, which scares me because that means a cop can have constant on forward and then switch back and nail you or wait till you drive by and hit you from behind while providing minimal warning to anyone traveling behind you. the 1.7 did seem to pick those traps a little better.
It also false a bunch of times on laser with no visible LEO , it false at least 5 times giving me a hearth attack each time , because the 1.7 would never warn on laser unless it was a real threat , save the random false near airports.
On the way back we decided to travel back trough US-27 which is a highway with 2 lanes on each side that goes from 35 mph speed zones to 65 as you drive trough towns and it's a deadly nest of speed traps by local sheriffs using K, KA and Laser.
I decided to turn on POP for comparative reasons .
Shortly after I got a full KA warning followed by a J out ,with my hearth racing I looked at the V1 as if it had just mocked me flashing that "J" and making that funny noise that comes with it,I smiled and drove on.
There wasn't that many false alerts or any further "J" outs after that but I did notice significantly more false alerts with the option on , but on that note I got 3 false ka warnings on a 4 hours trip , which is not bad considering that I also noticed an increase in range .
Down by Okeechobee road by a construction zone I got a K warning , followed by 2 then 3 then 4 warnings then 5 , one of the warnings was a KA , and the rest were K , I counted the Radar drones and I saw 4 drones , so I slowed down to below the speed limit , a car impatiently passed me on the left and speed up as we both approached the last speed sign I noticed the arrow pointed up and it counted 2 bogeys ,1 k and 1 ka , but there was only one drone left and the other drones were clearly behind us and out of range , as we approached the drone, the other car ahead of me hits the brakes and then almost immediately after, blue lights come on from a LEO that was hidden in the darkness next to the traffic cones and the radar drone , that ticket must had hurt as the speed limit was 45 and he was going like 65 on a construction zone.
Not really a save on my part but it was awesome seeing the V1 working at it's full capabilities by distinguishing with it's arrows , bogey counter and band reader a threat hidden by the shadows.
For now the V1 will stay in POP mode as I noticed that it is better at catching Quick triggers with it on and increased range , so what if it gave me 2 J outs and 2 ka false in 4 hours , it is definitely worth it .
PD: a bunch of people spoted the V1 and started following me :@
Thanks for reading.
