In my mind it makes no doubt that VR will not remain action-less , the company have to offer us a super V-1 , still it is not too late since the competitor is yet not ready to sell his new unit. But hte clock is ticking faster .

Bel did make an aggressive move pricing the unit above the retail of a Valentine One.

Valentine has enjoyed it's position and it is pretty much regarded as the number 1. The RX65 and X50 were "close but no cigar" competitors, though their lower price (as much as $100 on the X50) made up for it.

However, this STI at $450 is 9/8ths the price of a tried and true V1. To be honest, I was somewhat surprised. I only expected $400.

And what does it offer? Spectre undectability is the big one, but V1 is only 50 metres range. Magnesium casing V1 always had. And V1 has tried-and-true laser detection, twin antennae, the arrows, a much better customer-service team, a much more valuable name in the marketplace, far better resale value and public perception and dare I say it better looks?

Time will tell. If Bel has cracked the Spectre problem forever - then the STI will sell like crazy. But from all I can see, it's technology (using low-noise amplifiers) is too similar to V1, minus the antenna on the rear. Why can't Mike bring the detection range down to 0 from 50 metres? And why, or how rather, has Roy Zegers brought it down to 0? It IS possible. But is it a LASTING proposition, or is it just another Cobra 9870?!

And, I am unsure if Valentine would sell their undetectable unit for more than $400, unless it required serious hardware changes (that were more expensive to manufacture), in which case I'd expect a $399 "normal" unit and a $x "Undetectable". But Valentine, doesn't ship to locations where the undetectability is needed - unless you are a trucker!

I'd like to see what Mike will do.
