I am in agreement with you on this as every detector is going to false and the V-1 must have a patent on that arrow feature. I just don't like the V-1 shape in COMPARISON to other detectors as it isn't as streamlined compact like other detectors out there costing half its price where other detectors will include other little perks n bells n whistles i.e SWS, compass, human voice alerts. But the V-1 must have a patent on that arrow feature which is the major consideration with multiple threat feature over all other detectors.
So I just want to hear both sides of the story.
Now I am on my 4th detector and am in California so the KA band is a must in performance here. Laser is slowly coming into a few counties here but isn't a common occurence. X band just shut that off.
I will probably get the Pro-97 handheld scanner first at $149.95 currently on sale before the $400 V-1 which is never on sale and the price always the same $400+ with accessories. Remember too I know it isn't in the same class as the top 3 detectors BEL, Escort and V-1 but I have a current up to date Whistler 1793 SE with all the bells n whistles that I'm currently using on one car and the Cobra ESD-9850 in another car. So no sales on V-1 means I'm not in any kind of hurry. Whereas all of these other products n detectors go on sale for a certain amount of time like the Pro-97 1,000 channel trunking scanner.
Decisions Decisions the V-1 purchase is going to be a difficult one

i do agree that it is not very streamline, but performance vs looks, i'd take performance. SWS, compass and voice alerts are convience features, and SWS basically doesnt exist. i have voice alerts on my bel v995 and turned them off because they are anoying and dont help me. i just identify the sound with the band. it only took me a day or 2 of driving to instantly recognize any alert my detector would give me.

this was just said in another thread:

I welcome your genuine input and you are correct I just wish for the $$$ the V-1 would come up to date with other detectors that are half its price with all the bells n whistles (novelties). Definitely I know the main purpose is to get the detector that works (performance over looks) with the least amount of falses.
But what about form follows function?
Personally I do like the human voice warnings as I have gotten used to them in my last 2 current detectors Cobra ESD9850 and Whistler 1793 SE.

I just wish it was smaller but no other company has the arrow feature the V-1 has going for it. Yet the V-1 lacks everything or extra novelties every other detector has and design still seems very dated especially that knob I guess I'm in love with that arrow feature and number of threats identified but I have to consider if these two only features the V-1 has over other detectors is really needed in a good detector/best performing detector. It would be the detector that has the least amount of falses and best range if such a detector exists yet...
It is those arrows they really must help.
Valentine are you out there listening? can you make it a bit smaller?

just duct tape a detector with all those features to the top of it and turn all the radar detecting off . just kidding, that would probably make the v1 false like nuts. i gotta agree, that knob definately shows the v1's age. haha. trust me, i hate the money factor too. i'm in high school and dont really have a job, other than fixing peoples computers every so often so its going to take me quite a while to have enough...

Well look at it this way, the longer we both wait maybe the V-1 will come around to it and come out with more features get rid of the knob and make it smaller. It's just me I wish for the $$ the V-1 be up to date in erogonics

Vol knob? No way that's amazing! Want to adjust the volume, just turn the knob a radian or so and you have exact vol you want. With buttons, you have to wait and you overshoot it and have to go back around.

Ever had a GM car with a knob to tune the radio frequency? That's another good thing ergonomically-speaking.

i personally love the old style features, i just think that they show its age. i think the v1 feels more like a military detector because it isnt user friendly . i love non-user friendly things, like html code and that type of thing so its right up my alley - haha. the reason i dont like windows xp is it is too user friendly . maybe v1 can come out with a "standard" model and a "user friendly" model in the future

btw, i do love the knob on my grand am to tune the radio frequency! i can get from one end to the other really fast if i have to!

You should then get a Whistler 1793 SE if you want a non-user friendly frustrating detector. I have to use the manual on it and it sometimes still doesn't work as it is written in the manual. I may still return it but I only paid $125 for it.
It's like a 65 Corvette vs. a new Corvette as far as old style features go and user friendly. One is simple and the other very complex. Being military in nature one would think that it would be very user friendly in that anyone can use it. The V-1 that is. KISS remember ?? Keep It Simple Stupid.

You will love one of those older corvettes like a 64 in original condition. The AM radio with one speaker

On a 1964 Corvette you aren't supposed to listen to the AM radio with one speaker...

You are supposed to listen to the sidepipes under the doors. They are in stereo too!
