    Default Attn: Valentine One Owners

I would like to know if any of you are unhappy with this unit and if so why?
I am considering a purchase of a V-1 but in comparison to other detectors out there this V-1 is large and at $400+ expensive.
I know the V-1 can be upgraded when technology changes unlike these other detectors that end up being throw aways.
Also do the arrows really work and help or are they just a gimmick?
    I currently have a Whistler 1793 SE and a cobra ESD9850.

I have an X50 but I'm sortof unhappy with Escort the company, so V1 would get my vote and my money for a next radar detector purchase.

I bought it thinking it was "software upgradable" which is great, but they bearly ever update, usually only once and thats it... and I already had REV 5, so I'm done. Weak...

I'd wait for Escort/Bel to release their new RD in the states, then wait for V1's response... then buy the V1.

Yes I agree with you as I'm in no hurry would like to see if all of this stuff works and maybe Valentine One will come out with more features like other detectors sort of like the HDTV situation as the prices on those are coming down too.

I don't want to knock v1's but I have owned quite a few of them and have two now, for the price I just don't think there worth it! The bogey counter doesn't always work right nor do the arrows just look at some of outrun's vids, The alerts aren't as clear as the x50's, the mount on both of my v1's stick when I try to remove it, it's not the best looking detector and every v1 I have ever owned has falsed like crazy in town!

The only area I feel that the v1 really shine's is lidar detection, however I have a jammer + veil so I'm really not worried about it!

Click on the link and see for yourself!

I've had my V1 for about 4 months now and I love it. Although the arrows aren't 100% accurate, they do pretty well and they tell you which direction to start looking. The importance of knowing which was to look can't be overemphasized.

The size of the case doesn't seem to be an issue for me. It sits next to my rear view mirror and is fairly unobtrusive.

The laser detection is superior. I live in a state that bans laser jammers, so this is a bigger issue for me (along with Veil and a Lasershield).

Only you can decide if it's worth $100 above the RX-65 or the X50, but I have no regrets at all.

I personally have never had the arrows or the bogey counter fail me, and they have been very helpful at times.

The V1 falses a lot less that my first radar detector (I didn't know anything about them at the time, and bought a 'cheapo' $150 unit, which I might as well have flushed down the toilet).

The Ka alert is the only one I am am really concerned about, and I have never gotten a false Ka, and the detection range has always been spectacular, an the arrow tells me which direction to look out for the LEO. Now that I have it hooked up to my car pc, I have it make a siren noise when it picks up a Ka, and my ears are very tuned for that sound......

You'll have some buyers remorse after coughing up $400 for a little peice. Then it'll save you a few times and that remorse will subside. After another month you'll drive a vehicle without one and wonder how you could ever live without it.

in my opinion, no detector is perfect. all of them will false and bogey counters will be incorrect at times. the v1 is no exception. i also like the option of the remote display, it would come in handy at night especially. i dont currently own a v1 but i am currently saving my money for one. the main reason i dont like my current detector (bel v995) is that it does not have a bogey counter. i think the $400 is a very good investment.
