I just don't get it. You don't make your radar detector purchase decision based on "looks". You base your decision based on performance. Period.
Who gives a crap what it looks like? I think the V1 looks great anyway. But it could be pink for all I care. And I'll take a magnesium case over cheap plastic anyday.
re: Voice Alerts...
When the V1 detects a signal, it will go "beep" or "brap" or "brapbrap" (x, k, ka) which is instantly identifiable. Voice alerts are much less useful, since you need to "think" about what it's saying before knowing what exactly you are detecting. It's somewhat similar to analog / digital gauge readouts - with an analog pointer, you know exactly what is going on faster, due to the relative position of the pointer, instead of just a random number.

to answer your question. YES.
the cd was one of the primary reasons i got a V1.
i always run dark, so i wanted something that mimicked the main unit. the red dot of my old 8500 wasn't cutting it.
especially with the mod it works great, even if i have the stereo cranked, a quick glance tells me what band.

I learned to identify by sound. Regardless of which one is better or preferred choice the voice alerts vs. the audible beeps you would think Valentine would catch up with the others on this and have voice alert as an option and get rid of that big knob. It is a dated design.
If you are looking for a detector with voice alerts, the RX-65 has them, as well as the Whistler Pro 73 and the Cobra XRS9700.
I just want the best detector with the greatest range and lowest falsesOriginally Posted by jimbonzzz
I guess I just have too many bad memories of those Chryslers and Ford Thunderbirds of the mid 1980's... "door is ajar, close the goddamn door!"Originally Posted by LS2
