Hi all,
Was driving across Ohio (flat and straight) last night and had an interesting (for me enounter). I was in a small pack of cars driving around 15 over PSL. Pretty mellow, not a lot of traffic, but enough cars on the road to keep things interesting. I was in the back of the pack letting the others blaze the trail. In the middle of nowhere I get a weak X alert. Ohio still uses X, so I take notice but continue on. About a mile later I get a slightly stronger alert (two lights) and its consistent so I back down to +5 over PSL. a half mile after that it starts to ramp - 3... 4..... I back down to PSL thinking "some goofball is actually gunning X band out here in the dark in the middle of nowhere...". Sure enough, a little over a half mile later it really starts to ramp - its real, so I start looking around. I catch him in the median out of the corner of my eye, X is chirping full strength and then WHAM... full tilt Laser alert! I'm pretty sure he got the car two in front of me, but he had slowed as well by that point.
Question: is it common for the police to "pace" with radar and then lock you up with laser? This was a first for me. I'm not complaining; I enjoyed the extra warning. If anything, it pushed me close to installing a Blinder system.
I also got a nice Ka save near Wheeling (big hills and curves). Picked it my first tone maybe a mile out in an area that drops from 65 to 55 and its easy to go over. Noticed that the truck drivers were slowing and figured... OK... maybe they know something I don't. Picked up a few more tones for maybe .5 miles (had slowed to PSL by that point) and then it really started to ramp and I shortly saw the trooper coming around a corner in the opposite direction. Actually, my buddy saw him, as he was kind of getting into the game at that point
So, a good night for the V1. Would have definitely been at least a candidate for the X/Laser (???) attack in BFE Ohio, and may very well have been targeted in WV as well.
Lessons learned/utilized: Pay attention to ALL your surroundings. NOT just your detector. There are other cues you can use to help figure out what might be going on. Truck drivers are good bell weathers, especially at night. They're trying to make time on open roads late at night - if they slow, there's usually a reason.
Cheers, and any info on the X/Laser thing would be helpful!
