Got my new V1 Saturday after returning my IX about 6 months ago. Ive been without any countermeasures ever since. Been wanting to try a V1 but havent had the funds, but purchased one last week. During those months without any countermeasures I received a ticket. 92/70. I will tell that story after my questions, if anyone wants to read.
So I received it Saturday, no encounters yet. I just went out looking on about a 10 mile stretch of heavily patrolled highway, and nothing! I'm running in All Bogey mode right now just to see how it does. I found a K band "your speed is" sign. Forward facing i got less then a .1 mile warning. Coming the other way, towards it, I got a .2 mile warning. Are these speed signs low transmitting radar like the photo radar vans? That is the only guess I can come up with. Mounted high. left of RVM and level.
Another thing, I LOVE the windshield mount compared to escorts! Much better design. I think I have one of those annoying curvy windshields, so I could NEVER get my IX level for the whole month I had it! It drove me nuts. Another thing is it doesn't bounce all around like the escort mounts. But, one problem, The V1 keeps falling out of the mount. It's like the clip is not clipping into the grooves on the V1. The front of the detector falls forward and it slowly slides out of the mount. I try to position the back side of it to be firm against the windshield so it won't fall. But then it wouldn't be level. Any help here? Am I missing something? Thanks! Other then those two things I can't wait to get a true radar hit on it!
This should probably be in the Real experience section, but gonna post it here with this thread for those who want to read.--
No countermeasures, I'm on my way home from work and I've driven this stretch of highway (I-10) everyday for almost 5 months now. From when I worked nightshift for two months and now work dayshift out here for two months, never an enforced area! NEVER see any traps! Always cruised at 100 to and from work, day and night.
About a month ago on my way home from work, in the left lane cruising somewhere around mid 90s in the left lane. PSL is 70. OOPS! there goes a Louisiana State Trooper going opposite direction. ****! Ok, is he gonna turn around? I slow down a bit and watch my mirrors. Uh oh hes putting his left blinker on, hes getting over, oh yes he is turning around in the large grassy median to come get me. I step on it as soon as I see him put his blinker on. Now i drive a supercrew 03 f-150 V8. Not the fastest car in the world and tops out at 100mph. I know I have very little time to be going 100mph before he catches up and clocks me at an even higher speed then before. I am doing a 100 for about 6 or 7 seconds (felt like a lifetime). I knew I had to slow down as he was gonna be coming up in my RVM. I was trying to hit the next exit, but what do ya know! not another exit for about 5 or 10 miles! I got over in the far right line and set my cruise control at PSL. Here he comes, hits the blues, but wait hes not behind me? Hes lighting the guy up behind me? Maybe I'm safe? NO, hes in the middle of both lanes, lighting him up and waving and hollering at me to pull over also. He was obviously running C/O when i flew by him in the opposite direction, he wouldnt have had time to I/O me. Then I think he came up so fast behind me that the other guy didnt see him coming and he clocked him at like 84 or 86 or something I think he said. He got me for 92/70. He didn't say much, wrote our tickets and we were on our way. I have since slowed down and try not to go that excessive of speeds even with countermeasures.
