I own a laser jammer. A ZR3. I just do not have a laser jammer on my new car yet. Trying to hold out for Antilaser AL6. If they don't come out soon I might have to choose something else, I can't stand driving slow.

stealthJamal, are you saying the V1 is better on Ka or the X50 is? I can't decide what to buy... looking for good laser performance but Ka too.

I'm saying the orignal Passport 8500 Rev 15 which is no longer sold is better than the V1 AND the X50 in detecting Ka band from my experiences.

If you are looking to buy a new detector I suggest you look at the RX65(when operated in Ka USA mode) and V1 for the best Ka protection or wait to see what new detectors come out.

This is interesting as it seems alot of people like the V-1 but there are some that haven't had good experiences with the V-1..I was considering getting a V-1 myself. We will just have to see.

I dnk Personally I have had friends try and sell me the V1 they have let me use it for long trips in the past (and one rather long trip recently) I was really not all that impressed (mounted high just under the RVM for 3/4 of the trip then low for the remaning 1/4) with this detector.

I will say I am now a fan of the arrows though, even though its just logical to slow down accordingly and do a scan of the area to find the LEO. I like the fact it took literally 1/2 or 1/4 of the time to find the LEO in most 'close up encounters' (often instant on i believe). I could glance up at the V1 and say...ok he is in the upper 1/4 of me so instead of looking to the left/right/backwords I could focus my search much better and find the LEO quicker. It also helped when I would be in constant on situations to know where to look for him, but not as much as instant on: (since if you come up extremely fast on a signal...all odds its coming towards you aka a moving patrol car in opposite lane, If you come up on it decently fast...steadily increasing alert its probably a stationary trap, and a very very slow increase they are probably coming up behind you at an extra 5-10mph added to your speed), but still the arrows provided comfort.
So in this case the arrows were useless?

hi guy......my two cents been using radar detectors for about 20 years or so ...drive a lot of miles....always swore by escorts ....then for some reason went and bought a V-1 and will never be able to use anything else ..i drive hard and fast all the time... since i got my v-1 even in mountain terrain it just cant be beat... i still get Sweaty palms but you can not beat the arrows the direction finder...why would you think of using anything else ....i just don't know what this guys saying about a little more distance ..the laser part is still weak i think as i dint see much laser a few false alarms ....BUT FOR ANY TYPE OF RADAR YOUR NUTS FOR USING ANYTHINE ELSE

My three cents...My feelings exactly Chip_1. I owned the original Escort back in the late 70s for many years. And tried many since.

The V1 does a good job of being on the threshold of sensitivity vs selectivity. The bottom line is if you want sensitivity, you got to understand that you will get some falsing. Those false alarms share the same frequencies as real radar. Some false alarms can be filtered through signal recognition, others can't. Those arrows are a God send. My other detector in wify's car, I'll pick up and turn it to see where the signal is coming from.

Earliest possible first alert to police radar is my main concern when choosing radar detectors. The features of a radar detector come second in order of priorities for me.

Then you will be keeping your V1
